• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Thought you guys might like to come along for the ride. :)
I'll update this thread as Kim provides me with more photos.
This is the '60 that I recently purchased from Canada.
As some of you may remember, it had already been refinished, and although it appeared to be pretty nice work, there were a few issues, (including the serial number having been scratched out), that were best addressed by another refinish.
She will be getting a Cherry Sunburst, and then faded to a Honeyburst or beyond.
So enjoy the pics, and feel free to offer any advice or suggestions. :salude

Here she is as purchased.

I remember that burst...Although refinished, one of the most stunning tops I've seen.I was seriously thinking about making him an offer on that one.

Anyway, this should be one of the most interesting threads!:salude Please keep us posted. On another note, can you remind us the weight of that one?I can't find the listing info in my records and I don't remember if the weight was mentioned at all.

Hi Greek.
The weight wasn't listed in the auction, but the seller Steve Segal, said she's around 9 lbs.

I haven't even seen the guitar yet, as I've had it sent directly to Kim.
It's a lifelong dream to own a real Burst, even if she is a refin.
As a 13 year old, in 1976, I remember having the old Red Gibson book on my bedside table, permanently open on the page with the Robert Johnson Burst!
Now I just got to figure out how I can afford to keep it! :hmm

BTW, virtually all the parts are original to the guitar, and all four pot codes are 134936.
The worst thing Kim has to deal with is where the original serial number was gouged out.
The gouge has been filled, and until the filler is removed we won't know how deep it is.
I'm leaving that one in Kim's capable hands, and I'm sure he will figure it out.
Here's a pic.
She's also had a set of Schaller tuners installed at some stage.
Ugly, but it's all part of the guitars history I guess.

That's a beauty! Do you remember the serial number of that one?

Obviously the number on this one is lost.
Steve Segal suggested that the guitar could be in the 0 1000 to 0 1500 range, going by the transitional neck profile.
There's a few guitars on Burst Serial in that range that have very similar tops.
So far I'm thinking 0 1477 is going to be her new number.
If anyone has a Junior or Special or whatever with that number, please let me know asap.
It could be possible that the original number was much earlier than that, given the pot codes of 134936.
Any thought?

I strongly recommend that you don't do this! :wah
That number is likely another Burst, and duplicate serial numbers have already caused confusion and trouble for decades now.

Since you don't know the original number, I would suggest a number that could never be mistaken for a different original 60 Gibson guitar. :)
