Mr. Ganzler is my hero, and Texas Blues has a keen eye for Living Large. May I suggest that Dialed Life Philosopher and Passionate Cyclist are equally notable.:3zone :3zone :salude

Mr. Ganz Man; Lycra-Wearing Leg-Shaving Scrawny Men by Day/Guitar Players by Night everywhere want to know more about the "two bicycles", please. :photos (perhaps with Lesters so as to be Forum Worthy) since you, J.G, be the Ansel Adams of Burst photography. (Sorry to mention yet another talent/passion . . . ):jim :jim

(And San Clemente ain't a bad surf location for a Renaissance Man/Lester Slinger . . . )

Gladys - check

meat - check

booze - check

Sugar Momma $$$ - check

Tricky Dick reference - check

I challenge anyone to combine that list of subjects into one small paragraph.

Awesome Ganz! :dude:

No offense to Joe Ganzler, but I think CDaughtry earns this title on this Forum. :)

Maybe it's just the sum of all parts involved in the process of recording those clips, but I've got to say (and would whichever burst was involved) that Gladys sounds absolutely freakin' phenomenal in Phil's hands. Sounds like it would be a hard guitar to replace sonically, not to mention the awesome aesthetics of the instrument. I haven't a clue why Joe would even think of changing, but then again I'm constantly surprised on this forum.

And whilst the Esquire (admittedly with only one pickup) sounds great, you can kind of hear in the video why guitarists in their thousands dropped their single coil pickup guitars or converted them in favour of humbuckers - you've just got a whole other level of sound going on. As I say, all isn't equal in this video, including amps, but it's a great advert for the general superiority of humbucking pickups (in many scenario's, not all). It just took folks a few years to appreciate this fact.

I guess Joe would only let go of Gladys in case of severe financial hardship (doesn't sound like it) or if he found a better sounding and looking LP Standard (now that would be something).

Seems like several burst owners have been generous in sharing the delights of their big guns lately, if Joe G. is kind enough to share his burst with Joe B., why shouldn't he do the same with the folks at Fretted Americana who he has contacts with and has just moved closer to (if my geography isn't askew - I'm a Brit after all and the States is a big piece of real estate). I bet everyone involved had a blast, including me - I've looked at Gladys for long enough, now I get to hear her which is a blast for me too! Thanks guys :salude

Congrats on the move to California, Mr. Ganzler. Sorry for stirring useless speculations btw.
Thanks for letting everyone enjoy that guitar on video, here's part III:

Love it when Chappers runs in and turns the volume up on the other Les Paul! Funny as hell and his timing was impeccable! Great vid!:3zone

Ganz, man that Gladys is such an awesome instrument! Good lord, even at low volume Phil had the tone! As Lester Burnham said in American Beauty..."Spectacular"!

Gladys just looks amazing, and at least in my book it's - sorry, she's - the pretties burst I've seen being played!

And Phil X is just a phenomenal player, he's got the touch, taste, technique, feel, just a great rock dude.

But, and here I'll probably be banned from this forum for BLASPHEMY, you know what? As this is the first time I actually *hear* Gladys being played, by an actual pro, on a top quality amp, on a professionally produced video, well, tonally speaking I was expecting a lot more.

Yes Gladys sounds good. But if I didn't know better, I'd say this could have been any good Historic. I've heard plenty of other bursts, being played on video by less competent guitarists, badly recorded and played through an Ipad, that in term of tone really gave me goose bumps. All those burst trademarks, the note bloom, the harminics, the honk, the touch responsiveness, they've invariably come through even in the crappiest of videos.

Here instead, not so much. Again, just my personal opinion, and based on a Youtube video, albeit a professionally made one.
Will I duly be stoned to death by the Forum Senators or is there anyone else who had the same impression?

I don't know how anyone can judge the tonal nuances of a Burst from a YouTube video, no matter how "professionally" it has been recorded. And that amp that Phil is playing through, no matter how cool it is for blues and crunchy rock, ain't exactly known for discerning tonal nuances of a geetar! :wah

All that said, I thought Gladys sounded pretty darn good! :dude:

Half the posts on this entire site are concerned with tone --often the pursuit of vintage tone. I think it's hard to judge the tonal qualities of a guitar if it hasn't been in the hands of a great player --and I don't mean a couple minutes jacked into some random vintage gear at a music store. If Gladys was on tour with JB instead of Sandy, we'd know a lot more about her voice... These negative comments about Gladys' tone are premature IMO. Everyone around here loves Phil X (except Todd ) but I've never heard a killer guitar tone coming from those vids for whatever reason... Put her in the hands of a great player and you guys would be singing a different tune :ganz

I agree withyou Mike.

As I said, I simply think that, to my ear, there are many other YouTube videos of other bursts being played, most being unedited, badly recorded ones, where nevetheless all the amazing tonal traits of a burst come through much better than this one.
Tonal turd Gladys obviously ain't, and it still looks absolutely spectacular, but at least based on this video, I was expecting more.

The guitar sounds as good as anything else I've heard through that amp (via a Youtube vid). Really not a fan of the amp at all. It probably sounds great in the room, but it seems to me that it doesn't record well.
