Has anyone tried viewing photos on the Historic Les Paul Database, or adding photos to it lately? I have not had much luck doing either. And my emails to Hoss have gone unanswered. I hope he's ok.

I know as of November 15th, he was switching servers, and told us to notify him of any problems, but since then I haven't heard anything from him.

Frank

P.S. I hope I didn't overload it!

If anyone could overload it, it would be you or Todd! :rofl

I just added some photos, no problem...

Thanks for the reply, Doug. I just checked out your entry (nice guitar BTW), and all your photos seem to be displaying fine except the one sitting on the bench. If you click on the small picture so as to view the larger version, you (I) get a screen that says "Access Forbidden!" That's what's happening with almost all my guitars.

If you look at other people's guitars as well, you can view the small versions, but when you click on it to see the full size version, you get that same "Access Forbidden!" screen.

Does anyone know what's wrong, or am I the only one experiencing this? BTW, it's important to me (and probably others), because the HLPDB is what I've been using to host my guitar photos, so any photos I've posted in the past are not showing up anymore.

Hi guys,

I am not visiting the LPF as often as I used to.

Frank and I had e-mail contact last week and we found the problem. There seems to be an incompatbility between some JPEG compression file formats and routing between ISPs.

So guys, if you have problems uploading JPEG images, try the PNG image format or try the great and free imaging software www.irfanview.com to resize and save your files. This always works!

Thanks for the support,
Hoss

Thanks again, Hoss, for helping me work through that. irfanview seems to work great. And I also discovered that the latest version of Photoshop (CS3) works fine too.

And, if any of you haven't yet discovered the HLPDB, you owe yourself a look: http://www.historiclespauls.com/index.php

Frank, thanks for pointing out the login error at the HLPDB last weekend.

It was a database error (my mistake, of course) and thanks to your email I was able to recover it from the nightly backup.

I have added "SHARE" and "LIKE" buttons for Facebook to the HLPDB guitar gallery (and to the gear page as well).

Just click on it and share your favorite guitars with your FB friends.

Check it out http://www.historiclespauls.com/index.php?action=showgallery&id=252

EDIT: I am NOT collecting any user information from Facebook. These are just links, my server knows nothing about your user accounts on FB.

We are going to migrate to a new server this week.
Short downtimes of the HLPDB are to be expected.

With the new server came the latest version of the Linux operating system, including an up to date database engine.

After the upgrade we had some problems with special characters, like German Umlauts and French Accents. If you find entries with mangled characters please let me know.

Thanks again!

And now it happened: When I was developing the HLPDB 4.5 years ago I owned three Historics. I sold my last one this week.

Ofcourse I will not leave the Historic district of the LPF or stop running or improving the HLPDB.

Cheers!

News from the HLPDB, especially for all you early adopters who already use Google+ and love it as much as I do.

There is now a "+1" button in the upper right corner of the page (and also at the HLPDB Gear Page subsite).

It not only works with the frontpage, you can "plusone" individual guitars!

And you don't need to be registered at the HLPDB to use the feature.

But of course you need a Google+ account to see the "+1", which is currently still in beta and not many people have an account yet.

This will grow and I think it has the potential to unseat Facebook. So the HLPDB is ready :)
