• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

So I finally got around to taking a pic of my favorite strap.
I use it on my Les Paul, SG and Strat, been looking for more...though I think Levy's isn't making this one anymore. I have to take another look at their site for a replacement.
It the LEvy's PM 25. I looped it over the Les for a better view.

j45, that is a cool story. You made me think of something else with your post though. How many of us have a separate strap dedicated to each guitar?
Actually, I have two guitars that the straps to them cannot be used on any other guitar by official decree.

First I use Schaller Strap Lock system. As for the actual Straps? I use a 4 inch stap that I had another 3 inch leather strap sewn onto the top of it. Bottom is solid black. Top is Solid white with black music notes on it. I took the Two straps to a leather repair shop in town, and had them cut and sewn exactly like i wanted them. Came out very nice. I'll post a photo in the next few days. Actually when I finish working or the Black Axe its gonna be a match with!

My main guitar is a back-breaker, and I've never found "the perfect" strap for it. It's had a "temporary" strap for over ten years now while I looked. My bride presented me with an El Dorado strap for Christmas - problem solved! Comfy, sharp looking, and it will outlive me for sure...probably the guitar too.
My wife raved about the level of service she got from Bill Silverman, and that's a huge plus too. Good stuff, great service, and I will be spending a few more dollars on El Dorado straps.

I went with a 3 1\2" Levy's padded leather strap. It distributes the weight over a wider area and the padding makes it feel so much better.

You took the words right out of my mouth. The wider, padded straps make a huge difference, especially over the course of a four-hour gig. I have the same thing, in black, with some tooling on it.

I work near the company that makes "Franklin Straps" for Greg Bennett, or it used to be his line, I am not so sure he still fools with straps. Long Hollow Leather is the outfit. The nice guys there sell me blanks and I tool my own straps. This one is the one I currently use all the time. I have another blank ready, but cant think of a theme or design. I have a total block on what my next creation should be.

Really unique and cool! :D Matches the guitar well.
How about an M.C. Esher-themed strap?

I use a Fretsling contour strap from the late 70's, I found that they do not make them anymore but found a couple of new old stock on e-bay they smell musty and I have to make longer end pieces for them but they are great.
I also like Franlin straps a lot also, just bought two more today.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Franklin Straps - very high-quality leather, soft and great for handling and distributing the weight. I find 'em in the local GC - great looking, too...

I did mention Franklin Strap. They are in Franklin Tennessee about 2 miles from my office. I know the owners and they are great people. I love walking into that shop full of leather. The smell is fantastic!

Lot's of cool straps here. For those of you whose guitars have a nitro finish, you should go for an inert material (nylon), because leather will react with it and leave a mark. Of course, if you keep the strap separated from the guitar except when playing, then no problem.
