That's exactly the speaker my '65 PR had when I got it which is a road hard original that was owned my Nashville picker Rick Wright (RIP). I sold the speaker for peanuts on TGP, a little too "crisp" sounding for me TBH as PR's are kind of crisp to begin with. I've tried out a small mountain of speakers in the amp and my favorite (and what I use with it now) is a 60's Oxford 12T6 (I think, a Twin Reverb speaker) as it has a good balance of headroom, warm overdrive, and takes the controls well (can be fatter, can be bright, etc) as well as being equally friendly to humbuckers/singles/etc. A close second is a Scumback Scumnico but the Scumback really takes the volume/headroom down on an already quiet amp.

But, you might love the crispness of the Cream AlNiCo.

I use a blue 12" in my PR. Perfect speaker. So responsive.

I came here to see what a cream alnico was. 70s cream are the regular ceramic that changed from green to cream, to black.

No owners of the Cream have given an A/B versus the Gold and the Blue as yet and I've not found anything on youtube either as a comparison.

I hope to be able to do that soon. No direct A/B as I haven’t the time but I will put my Cream in a box soon

Have hunted around a little on youtube recently and came across some comparisons of the above.
A while ago I'd A/B'd the Blue and Gold in my 1974X combo...... the Blue having the brighter sound.
On youtube there was a comparison of all three in the same cabinet and the Gold vs the Cream.........the Gold was brighter.
So from what I've found.......it's the Blue then Gold then Cream in terms of brightest to slightly darker sound.
From that I think that the new Ruby 35w will fit nicely in the mix for those that want an as close as possible Blue sound in a higher wattage..... only a smidgen of difference in tone I presume.
I'll definitely buy a Ruby later on.

Interested to hear about the cream, though I have no experience with it myself.

I would like to add to the choir, a Princeton Reverb with a Blue is fantastic. I use mine with either a Blue or a 15 W Alnico silver Weber, and it's a wonderful combo :salude

I have a Cream Alnico in my Marshall Astoria Custom. It took a while to break-in. I ended up taking some Acetone and removing alot of the edge damping compound. They have way more damping compound on the Cream than they do on the Gold or Blue. Too much I think! I've been dealing with Speakers since 1972 when I worked at Cerwin-Vega and then in the late 80's when I moved back to Calif. and worked at JBL Pro. Mark Sampson told me 28 years ago to remove the edge damping compound on speakers. I asked him why and he said: " would you rather have a speaker that sounds good for 8-10 years or one that sounds great for 5 years...

Don ..you’re right it needs some breaking in ..still, fresh out of the box it sounds excellent ..meanwhile, adding the 12” blue to my drip edge PR is everything I hoped it would be ..it sounds fantastic and unlike the cream90 is well broken in ..definitely gonna keep both amps with this setup

So thin sissy and garywright, you guys have routed out the baffle on your PRs to accomodate the 12" Blue I take it?

I bought the parts as a DIY kit and could choose to have the baffle cut for a 12" speaker. So it's technically not a real PR, but it sounds great :salude

I had Larry Rodgers (RIP) make me a couple baffles. One, a 12" for my Princeton Reverb clone and the other a 10" baffle for an old BF Champ cab. By far the most authentic looking aged cloth I've seen and Larry made me a believer in the tonal benefit of a pine plywood baffle in a smaller BF combo cabinet.

I decided not to put my Blue in the PR clone I built. The popular mods to make a PR band friendly - doubling first stage filtering, Stokes mod and Deluxe size output transformer - has probably bumped up the wattage to the wrong side of 15 watts for a Blue. That and cranking up the amp to 9 with a drummer seems to be a perfect recipe for a blown Blue.

So the Blue went in a stock spec 5E3 clone, which is pretty freakin' delicious.
