• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Tom, do you recall when the photos in the 2006 thread were taken? It seems to have faded a bit since then.

I took the neck detail photo in early November 2006, right before I posted this Burst Pic of the Week feature.
The full photo might be from early 2006. It looked like that each time I saw it. It has faded since the current owner has had it.

Is there any reason to believe that this guitar might have been buffed?

I'm just a simple observer looking in from the outside, and I really don't intend this to be a joke like most of the other similar comments, but to me the grain pattern seems to work pretty well with that infamous poor quality Beano pic. Dark areas on the last three frets don't look bad either.

No. Wishful thinking abounds.:jim

+ 1.

Those DB readings are almost identical to my '58 PAF's so with the Pot Codes & the DB readings this was a '59 made from '58 Parts.

Awesome looking Plaintop. :bug:bug

:salude

What suggests that? :hmm

Well, I'm not saying anything suggests it. I'm just curious as to the absolutely flawless, glossy finish, and not even a little checking behind the nut on the neck. Also, it may just be the photos, but I'm not seeing any grain sinking. I'm simply wondering if it's really that fucking clean, or somebody buffed it.

Of course, but, a buff could have happened before it got that name!

It was that clean last time I saw it, a few years back.

Out of all of the things that some of these guitars have gone through in years past, a finish buff barely raises an eyebrow with me. I would rather see a little old finish removed, than newer finish added.

Really nice "Minty" Burst! :dude:

I saw pictures on fb the other day of an equally mint 57 goldtop for sale in Sweden.

I like it. I dig the subtle flame and the grain pattern.

Whats up with the neck joint?

OK, I hate to stick my dick in the punchbowl, but there's definitely been some buffing between when Tom took his photos, and now. (Not that it matters, IMO.) There's a lot of light scratches on the lacquer that aren't there anymore. I don't think they buffed out any checking, but that finish is a lot smoother and shinier than this guitar here:
