Another Peter Green Faded from CV Guitars

I'm definitely intrigued by these.

Have any of you played these and compared them to Historic reissues in terms of playability and tone?

I read Larry's take on these versus the Historic's and originals, but I'd like to get some more opinions.

Have any of you reversed the Peter Green mod or ordered it without it? How's the tone? I'm not a huge out of phase, PG fan, but there are other aspects of this guitar I like.

I'm not sure Larry will sale them without the mods....but you can get regular standard fadeds at a good price many other places. I love the tone of these guitars. I especially love the neck and middle position(out of phase). I do find the BB Pro bridge PU to be a bit bright and biting for me.

Do other LCPG owners find the bridge PU a bit shrill? Or maybe it's just the nature of the BB pro bridge period.?? These are my first guitars with BB pros. The neck and middle positions are killer IMHO :2cool

Hi Jeff,

I have compared these to older historics. I haven't had a chance to try an '07 historic yet. None of the historics I tried sounded better than my Fadeds. I own one from Larry and one that's stock. Don't get me wrong, the historics sounded great, but these fadeds truly sing. If you're not concerned with having a guitar that replicates a 50's burst to the tee, than a Faded is a great choice. I love the feel of the neck on these.

They drip with tone in the middle and/or neck position, but I agree with Dock44, the bridge pup can be very shrill, stab me in the ear with an ice pick. For me all it took was a minor pup height adjustment to cure it. That being said, I have yet to use the bridge pup alone for any style.

As far as the difference between Larry's Fadeds and a stock one goes, it is night and day IMNSHO. The best part is the stock ones sound great right out of the box. Larry's mods push it over the edge.

My only complaint is that I really wish the Faber ABR-59 bridge did not come with prenotched saddles.

BTW, the only mods I have done to #103 since getting it home was, I swapped the switch tip to an amber one and I put amber tophats on it. As hard as I tried I just couldn't get used to the reflector/tophat combination. I'm really struggling with the whole pickguard thing right now.

I'm gonna have to do that too Paul(lower bridge PU). I tuned up 130 and the strings are right on the bridge cover anyway.......low E buzzes real bad on the cover. The setup on 69 was excellent. I'll lower bridge PU on both and see how that sounds to me. Yes, neck and middle are awesome.

Remember these are historic pup rings so there much higher than stock. Don't be surprised if the pup falls below the ring.

Sweet, Dock. I'm curious as to how similar they sound. Have you been able compare them yet?

Believe me, the Historics are nice, but they ain't "all that". There is a lot that can be done to improve the historics and make them far closer in comparison to an original '50's LP.
Besides, they are made on a production line anyway, no matter what Gibson calls the building they are made in.

A good guitar can be made anywhere, and the Fadeds are being made very well.

Yes Jurius I have. I got 69 a few days before 130 and enjoyed it. When 130 arrived I played them back to back for a few hours. First, I found that I much prefer the 50s neck on the honeyburst which I didn't expect. Just listening to Larry's soundclips, in my head I liked 69 better. Once I played them together I preferred 130. It seemed more focused and balanced. 69 still sounded great but it just wasn't grabbing me like 130. Being that I liked 130 better and preferred the 50s neck, I've returned 69 to get a TB with 50s neck. 69 sounded terrific, 130 was amazing. Figured it makes more sense to have 2 with the same neck. Larry has got something special with his modded fadeds!! :2cool

I like the 50's neck also. It plays just a fast for me and picking seems more precise.

Which guitar are you taking now?

Jurius, there weren't too many TBs with 50s necks left but I'm getting #111 now. It actually has a very similar top to 130 which is cool I think.

130 is just beautiful.
Love that top.
I have #67.
And I'd sure like to have another, but though she's quite understanding, that might be a little over the line for my wife.. :)

Hey Mikev, 67 and 69 look like brothers :hee little more flame on yours.....nice top! :2cool

Yes, as soon as I saw 130...had to have it. Had another HB on hold until that one showed up in the last batch. I'm digging 132 too....someone needs to snatch that one up.

Yea, when I first contacted him about getting one, it was down to 67 and 69.
In fact, there is a really long story about that, but I won't bore anyone.
I'll just say that it starts with FedEx losing my #67 on the way to me. But they found it. That was interesting to say the least.. :)
All the new honey ones that he has now look great. Congrats on getting another!

Ok you guys help me out...

I'm struggling with the whole pickguard thing. Should I install it or not? I love LP's with pickguards, but I'm not sure I'll like it on this particular guitar. If I drill the holes...

:hmm
