Here are my two. Both '64. The sunburst is late '64 with a slightly slimmer neck profile.

My favorite guitar I have played was a one owner mint 64, perfect neck, low action, and amazing sounding pickups. Both Bridge, middle and Neck pickups were a perfect balance. One of those guitars that felt like your favorite worn in sneakers.

Here's my "old sneakers" converted '65. Very light, nicely tapered neck (too thin after a PO shaved the fretboard way too much). Great sounding pickups.

he he... "Previous Owner" (could have been a parole officer for all I know)

Thank you kind sir. So many acronyms to learn here at the LPF. YMMV. IMHO. BOTB. NGD. IMNSHO. :hee

And my favorite; WTF. Which I found out does not mean " welcome to facebook " :hee

seriously shaved. Could have lost anywhere from .03"-.06"

Was thinking I'd put on a new board with dots, but decided against it.

I d have one of those "CUSTOM" TRCs like Clapner has...:hmm

Just curious... Did Gibson use aniline dye on those thinline guitars? I never saw much fading on them, not even close to faded backs of bursts

Think they did in 1959, find the red in my ES335:

The red is almost gone. Have seen some faded 1959 ES 355s that have a watermelon or orange tint, mine is still pretty red but much less vivid deep red as is the 1964.

Her is a photo of my 3 1959s, you can see that the red is a very different stain than what was used in 1964:

A lot of guys with normal to small hands dig em.

Guys with big hands, pass. YMMV

Never heard anyone say 64 was a small neck, none of mine were....most guys I know consider '64 the second best neck to a '59. And recommending a natural finish '59 over a '64...well of course... I'd recommend an original '59 burst over a reissue, but that little issue of an additional hundred grand may be a small problem for some. ...and I've also not heard anyone prefer a shallow neck angle '58... in general I'd say the answer to the question why a 64 is that it has a nice, wide, full neck...not too far from a '59 and nothing like the skinny flat '60, '61, '62's... the Clapton/Cream association was made because of a single concert he used it but I can't think of a single track with the '64 that is classic Clapton tone.

For some reason(possibly the rehearsal photos), I was under the impression that Clapton used his 335 for the Blind Faith album. What guitar did he use for the solo on "Presence of the Lord"?
