• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

what's the verdict on the 60th Anniversary R9s? Did they nail it?

Here’s Al! Lol

It’s not been disproven fella

It’s the same thing folks...titebond is not, it’s rubber.

Regurgitated truth right here.

Nope. You clealy stated Titebond doesn't cure hard, remains rubbery and robs tone. A false statement, like the one you also made about the new hide glues. They are not the same as a the old hot hide glues nor alike to the p- resin glue.

Again you claim cured titebond is rubber. It is not.

If you had ever had to dismantle any laminate hardwood item made with titebond adhesion you'd know. Especially pressure laminates. Saw through and try to separate. Then you might know.

Tons of construction experience since 1977, but thanks for heads up!

We will agree to disagree

Happy holiday Big Al!

I really can’t follow your position on the glue issue.

From my experience and guitar encounters since the late sixties, it’s simply not an issue. Like many here, I’ve owned or had my hands on stellar LP’s of many era’s and specs (Norlin’s too) and that would probably cover the landscape of “glue.” Tone doesn’t follow the variants in widely-used adhesives in a direct way with the solid-body electrics. It’s a likely factor at some tiny percentage, but not as a realistic, significant component.

It’s great that companies are minding the smaller details, but this point is very small. There are just too many exceptions to the broad generalizations of TB vs. PF vs. Hide G in-a-can... I guess RF glue is somewhere in there too.

Wood, pups, setup, strings.

I consider myself agnostic regarding the relationship between tone and glue, but your point sounds very plausible. To me at least, but I’m no expert.

I have no position...only sharing known characteristics of glues. Seems everyone really gets their tits in a knot if there is the slightest mention of tone effect. For the purposes of focusing my point I retract any comment I have or have been perceived to make connecting glue to tone. My comment was purely to share glue characteristics...laminate flooring not withstanding.

I think most of us would agree that there is no definitive proof one way or the other. The best we can do is conjecture and make educated speculations. Personally I find it a really interesting topic. The conversation often derails and a some of us come across very strong on the matter. I also know the dead horse has been beaten to a pulp, but that doesn’t take away from the enjoyment I have reading about other people’s perspective. I think your comments opened up an interesting discussion.
