Definitely saw some repeated exposure to moisture over the years as evident by comparison of the slug side to the screw side.

Why'd you decide to pop the covers?

Interesting. I took the cover off an early patent number pickup recently and it looked like new. Depends on the amount of sweat I guess.

It all depends on the amount of humidity in the area you live it and as well, how much the previous owner(s) sweated. I've removed covers from old PAF's and early Pat.#'s and some looked perfect and other were a cruddy mess inside..
