If it wasn't for Edwin and the Historic line I wouldn't have the great Gibsons I have now, wouldn't have travelled to the Arlington show etc etc.
God bless him.

RIP Edwin. In 2013 I went to the Gibson custom shop in Nashville just to see what it was all about. We are fortunate to play guitars that reflect his hard work and legacy.

My desire to always reach the source of information about Gibson Art/Historic creations put me on the phone with Edwin several times and ultimately - in person with him many years ago at NAMM.

IMO, this man was working just a bit harder to convince his employer of the viability of all things “Historic” every day as he was to produce what Gibson aficionados like you and me have cherished. To our benefit, he excelled at both.

We are fortunate to have lived through Edwin Wilson’s reign over what was, rather than what was almost. Being really, really good isn’t free.

My condolences to All, so connected

Was there any given cause for his passing?
Thanks!

Sad to hear of his passing.... the only time i heard of him was on the HOC forum.... never an LP guy i was until i got my first Gibson R7 BB.... heard Wilson joined Heritage guitars on their Custom core series... and next what shocked me was HOC then announced his passing.... its definately a guy with the amount of passion and devout on such instruments....

But what exactly happened to him? Such a young age !! RIP !!

He was diabetic and on the kidney wait list after a series of setbacks over the last few years. Through it all, he was always positive and jovial even when I knew he was not doing well. The memorial that Steve threw (shown above) was really, really fantastic and moving and stirring and memorable. I know Edwin was there in spirit with a huge smile on his face.

My wife has a very good friend of her’s out here in L.A. who runs a Renal program. She’s very involved with kidneys’ etc. when I was with Sam Neely back in the 80’s, he had diabetes really bad. And the John Lennon guy I played with and travelled world for 15 years was a really bad diabetic as well. Most diabetics don’t live long lives….
