Who needs a reverb tank anyway? You describe it well JT, somewhat nasaly high mids emphasised. Friggin thing will make you deaf. Personally I'll take the '59 Bassman. It doesn't lay waste to those little hairs inside my cochlea quite as efficiently So, WADR to Mr. Richards and Mr. Bonamassa, I say NO GOAT. I'm on record saying NO GOAT to the Deluxe Reverb as well. The '59 Bassman reigns supreme! All hail the '59 Bassman!

Yes, it's loud, very loud. However, the one late 50's HPTT that I have used was anything but nasally sounding. I've also never played a Bassman that I have preferred over this thing.

I have a 1960 Brown Super. Wife friendly, the tone is very interactive, killer harmonic vibrato ( I think it’s vibrato- might be trem) and when hit with pedals does everything short of metal. I can sit for a long time with a guitar and jus mess with it organically. Oh- and a presence knob. Vital.

I saw an Elvis tribute ( Memphis Sun Mafia w Dan Fontaine) and the guitarist played thru a SFTR. I am so impressed by the punch that is unique to these monstas.
BTW- I am not an Elvis guy. If you are Metro West these guys were so much fun.

I much prefer the Bassman for big tweed at reasonable volumes. Same with all twin reverbs, they are too loud and relatively "thin" sounding compared to a Bassman or Super. The attack is too sharp and loud.

A great amp, but not GOAT

I've always wanted to try a High Power Twin but I settled for a Brown Vibroverb for Portability/less volume at gigs. I think its got a better chance of being a GOAT since its a good blend of tweed/blackface but has more headroom than tweeds but isn't completely scooped like a blackface. It also has Reverb/Bias Trem.
