Well I've had all my pre op done and am going into the Hospital tomorrow for a total shoulder replacement. The Surgeon explained the procedure and showed how the metal apparatus in my arm will be cut down and the new upper part attached. This means my whole left humerus bone will now be steel. Not quite sure what will happen with the Clavicle and other bones as they have to open me up too see and will act accordingly.
Fingers crossed on this one. After healing up for a few months I should have less pain than I do now, but even with my now limited use of my left arm, there will be even more limited range of motion after surgery. I explained to the Doc, that, NO! I will have enough range to play again and there is no amount of pain that will stop me. I have lost so much soft tissue due to the cancer and have less than half of my bicep and some tendons and stuff had to be shortened to reattach to the steel bone.
I asked if she wanted to bet against me? No takers. So following the surgery and post op I will be entering the Nazi Torture Chamber known as Sports Physical Therapy and work as had as I can to regain use of the arm.
I'll be gone for awhile but will try to drop in when I can.
