KT66s...
Jumping in a bit late here...
The KT66s are my favorite tubes in the Soldano circuits I have tried, both in my home-built SLO and in the Hot Rod 50+ I currently have. I prefer them over 5881's, 6L6's and EL34s. They just have a smoothness that I like!
BTW, the Hot Rod amps sound very good and you can pick them up for about $700 for the single channel and $900 for the two channel versions. May be a cheaper way to get in the SLO ballpark.
For what its worth, I have to honestly admit the Soldano Hot Rod 50+ sounds better than my homebuilt SLO did.
