My local tech is very big on Warehouse G12 C/S as being good for Deluxes/DR's. I put one in mine today and boxed up the non-original but early 60's Jensen.
Will advise after a break-in period.

That's what my Richter has in it. I like it a lot.

Agreed… If you plan on getting the amp above two… The speakers are gonna fail and burn up. In tweeds I am a fan of Celestion speakers. Very warm and tight sounding. Weber just sent me some of their alnico 10 inch speakers that clear the transformer on the Bassmans that sound fantastic if you are into alnico.

Good luck and play loud!

By the way… we get 35 shows out of the classic 80's in the high power tweed twins before the cones literally start and sometimes succeed in twisting themselves off the baskets. :##

so much winning in this post, this is why we love ya JB. lol

Thats what a bandmate has in his '67 BFDR and they sound great. Sound real warm and "vintage". :dude:

They reduced some of the high end in the C/S from the C that I had put in my 69 SFDR.
The 61 Deluxe is a much simpler circuit- but it sounds good so far. A little stiff compared to the semi-original Jensen.

For 50s tweeds, you can get original Jensen AlNiCos pulled from organs...and use those for regular gigging. I've done that before and they are the same speakers, just in black frame (instead of blue) without the bell cover...suits me just fine.

Weber Alnico silver tens are my favorites. Have two in a custom built cabinets with a tweed deluxe. I went through a ton of tens before deciding on these. Great match for tweedies!!!!

I loaded four Jupiters into my super reverb. They are a great match in this amp, tamed the top end and are a little less efficient than others I've tried. The amp is lighter, volume is more manageable and it sounds great. The Jupiters are similar to warehouse.

I'm facing a similar dilemma. I have the original Oxford in my brown deluxe (it has been reconed). It sounds wonderful but I plan to play this thing at high volume for extended periods. Since its been reconed already should I just play on and not worry, or swap it out for a workhorse? I've got a brand new G12H30 just sitting around but I'm afraid that speaker is going to ruin the sound of this amp for me.

The consenses around here is that if you are going to play loud, swap out the speaker.. And IMHO, I Agree, I don't think the Oxford is going to last.. Plus I think they are better sounding speaker you can swap in in your brown deluxe.. I have always liked G12h30, if I where you I would swap.. iirc, I swapped in a v30 in my old brown deluxe and loved the change... YMMV:yah

Cool. I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

well folks, i'm here to report my thoughts on replacing my reconed vintage P10r in my '58 tweed super with a pair of celestions g10 Golds.
the golds are louder, have a tighter low end, smoother top end especially when pushing the amp, more low mid which i original though would be any issue in the super, but it is not, adjusted the amp eq to compensate.. The thing i like the most is the amp has more punch which helps me articulate my playing better.. i also feel the golds have great depth, just like the p10r did at lower volumes.. all in all i think the Golds are a winner :yah. i don't think I'm going to miss the reconed p10r.. oh yeah, the amp is a little heavier with the golds.. :dang

thats my story and i'm sticking to it ..:salude

Play my 1959 Deluxe regularly with a Blue that I installed at the suggestion of Komet's Hogy.

The original vintage Jensen and replacement one that I bought with an original cone both got toasted and have been reconed and in storage.

The Blue is more efficient, more controlled bass and really growls in a musical way...and it is pretty darn loud. Very happy with it, even if it is non spec and not traditional.

My 59 Bassman and Super both still have their original Jensens, and they sound really great with them. Back in the early 80s I was wise/lucky enough to collect a few similar vintage 10" Jensens as spares should I need them. I have a clone 5E3 amp that originally had a Weber 12A125. It did sound good with that speaker. But, when I put an early 70s greenback into it, the amp really came into it's own. I had two of the greenbacks. After seeing what it did for the 5E3 Deluxe, I couldn't help but try the second one in my brown Deluxe-Amp. The result was a similar excellent result, even with the considerably different voicing of those two amps. I guess I just really like the sound of those older 12" greenbacks. Wish I had a few more of them for some of my other amps that use 12" speakers. Always on the lookout for more.
