after playing my friends 58 Gold Top recently, I noticed a slight v-shape to the back of the neck. Is this close to what the real feel necks are like?

That's my understanding. I have heard the v-neck was more characteristic of original goldtops than original 'bursts, but I haven't heard anything definitive. E-mail Dave Carpenter (look at the Music 123 sub-forum) for a more authoritative answer.

My original 1959 Les Paul Special has a slight "V" shape to the neck. I've played a few other Fifties Lester's that have that same shape/ feel.

The Real Feel necks felt much like a friends '54. Maybe slightly bigger but the same soft V shape to it. I never felt a burst neck with that profile but so what. Its a great feel regardless.
