• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

what is that from TW ? Is that from routing for the Kahler ?

The Kahler was installed 40 years ago. The area I'm talking about shows fresh damage.
I don't know what it's from. Maybe the owner knows? :hmm

I definitely don't know. I just got the guitar. Previous owner was a 22 year old kid. He didn't know much about the guitar. No idea :(

Just buy a new Kahler hybrid

I also have an old Gibson LP Custom with the Gibson version of Kahler. That Gibson tremolo did not help sustain and the rollers were not rolling well. Kahler tremolo's are great because you can adjust them in six ways on ea. string to make it perfect, and the rollers do not drop, like on a Floyd Rose....(pivot not roll), so even hard use, it stays in tune. I just removed the old Gibson Kahler and bought a new one with the materials and rollers I wanted for the tone I was looking for. Lots of customization can be done on these. The new Kahlers also allow you to set the bridge fixed, or free with one turn of the allen wrench. The rear tuners move really far, so it is a quick switch from standard to drop tuning because you don't have to loosen the string locks. The new Kahler system will fit exactly into the old routed hole. My brightness and sustain are great now. Look at Kahler's website and see how many ways you can get the tone you want with types of metal for the tremolo and rollers, cams... Those other 2 holes would be really easy to fix. Find a perfect sized dowel and finish the dowel top that shows. Glue in after you know you have the proper depth. It looks great without painting the entire guitar if done well.

Swap Kahler

BTW. I replaced my Kahler with a brass base and steel rollers that significantly improved harmonics and sustain, but keeps the Les Paul warmth too.
