Anyone know the weight of the Peter Green LP? I remember many commenting that it was a difficult guitar to play but I do not remember anyone mentioning the actual weight....:hmm Thank you.

It was just under 9lbs. I remember it felt lighter than what the scale read. I guessed it at just under 8.5 lbs. Very well balanced.

thats funny, I just read an interview where PG mentioned the heavy weight of that guitar as one of the reasons he doesnt like it, but thats not bad for a LP. Thats lighter than mine

Was he saying it was heavier than other Les Pauls?
I suspect he felt that way about Les Pauls in general. That would [at least partly] explain why he quit using them for the most part. :)

He has stated that Eric Claptons Beanoburst was very comfortable to play compared to his own. Neck profile was mentioned, EC's being a '60 slimtaper and PG's being a '59 on the chunkier side of 59's. Maybe the Beanoburst was also somewhat lighter in weight as well. Who knows?! But PG seemed a bit disappointed in the long run with his '59. And one reason would appear to be, because it didn't live up to how he remembered Erics Burst.

The context was that the interviewer was talking about Gary Moore, and how he had Peters old LP, and asked him if he would like it back, and Peter said it was too heavy and that Gary was welcome to it.

You may be right about his feelings towards LPs, I was also reading about how he was given a 60 burst by Mick Fleetwood, which he had liked because of its skinny neck, but then gave it away shortly after acquiring it

thats awesome, how did it feel and sound?

It needs a fret job. The action was set higher than I like and strings were stiff to bend. Neck profile was pretty normal for a '59 up to around the 7th fret. Felt pretty big after that. As I mentioned earlier, to hold it felt much lighter than a guitar that weighs 8lbs 15ozs. I played it thru an amp for a couple of seconds until I broke the high E string. The amp was some new small Fender piece of crap. So I can't really give an honest assessment, although I'd say its a bright sounding LP. From what I could tell in a large convention center, the guitar seemed to resonate well acoustically when I picked some notes before the amp was on. Phil Winfield was gracious enough to let me play it. I appreciated getting the chance to check out a guitar that I've listen to for years on recordings.

What would be deemed to be to heavy for a Les Paul?
Does anyone prefer a heavy Les Paul?

It is different for each person. Any Les Paul at 10 pounds or more fits almost everyone's idea of heavy.
Some feel that anything over 9 pounds would be heavy, but that's probably the average for 50s LPs.

haha, oh sorry TW59, i didnt realize that was your post, i wouldve given you credit :)salude)

I also read, on another forum(http://www.fleetwoodmac.net/fwm/index.php) a member claiming to be Peters neice (not challenging the claim, she is all over that forum) says that he has quite a collection of guitars in storage (over 100 she said, about 50 shes seen). Its very likely, he has a lester or 2 (or 3) and simply doesnt dig them anymore.

i think he sounds great no matter whats hes playing

Maybe Peter choose this one because it seemed way closer to the 1960 Beano Burst he always admired.
here's a look at the ones he didn't pick
