• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Nice guitar, pretty clean and plays great. Got it at Sam Ash in Lombard, they've treated me very well over the years! Just got the chipboard case, though, might have to find a HSC. Here she is:

those old 175 models are great guitars. Spent many a night with (one and a Real Book) in jazz clubs in my younger days. Enjoy that guitar!

Always glad to see an ES-175 that hasn't been stripped for parts by the guitar mongers.

Surprisingly it's just a comfortable "old Gibson" neck. Not clubby like a 59 might be, and not thin/wide like a late 60, just a comfortable shape and size. I suspect the nut width is intermediate (1 5/8?) because I can't quite play a C on the third fret without being really careful about finger placement, which is my test of neck width. 1 11/16 is easy, and 1 3/4 is a breeze, 1 9/16 I can't do. Anyway, bottom line is that it's a nice, full, boat shape.

Another thing that's weird to me: into a clean amp it's just a tad dead. Plays like a Jazz box, which is not my wheel house at all. Add a little hair and it starts to come alive. Plug it into the recently acquired Voodoo modded JMP-1 thru a Jim Kelley FACS as a power amp (nice neutral tone to enhance the JMP) and it starts to sing! Not uncontrolled feedback, at least not at comfortable levels, but just a little sustain, the mids ringing out just a bit. It surprised me!

Nice looking guitar, Dr. Bob!

Do you still have the blonde '59?

Yep, Mike, still got all the trade guitars except the sparkle Tele. Are you going to be at Dallas? I'm thinking I might try and make it down this year.

I don't think I'll be making Dallas, but definitely Arlington! I'm sure John will be happy to know you still have most of the trade guitars. Hope you're doing well!

So, what would you guys do for a case for this beast? I've got a spare dreadnaught case, but it's big, need some padding. The Gibson case seems pricey for what it is. I'm flexible... It came with the correct chipboard case in decent shape, but that's not real protective!

I got the Epiphone case for my '62 L-4. Built the same as the Gibson but with the Epiphone logo!

Congrats!
A good friend of mine and former bandmate has either a 61 or 62 that he got real cheap in the late '80s from his guitar teacher. Something about "debts" and "drugs". Still has it! :spabout:dude:

The Hiscox dreadnought acoustic (GAD) is a perfect fit, I’ve got it for my ‘64. Congrats on a lovely 175!

on another note, when exactly did Gibson start fitting these with Pat no’s instead of PAFs?

I had Carl and Dave at Dave's look at it before I took possession. They tell me that a few PAFs dribbled out in 62, but that was pretty much the end of it. There would have been more gold PAFs left over, so in the 345/355/Custom versions they might have carried on a few years longer.

Dr. Bob & Michael: I won't be at the Dallas show as I am playing that weekend in San Pedro. In October, I won't be attending the Arlington show either as I will be playing a couple of gigs around Chicago.
