So a new version of the 59 LP is on the way and the launch will be on Tuesday 11-21-23. Dealers cant sell before the launch. It is a 59 Brazilian board LP Murphy painted and Murphy lab aged. There will be 6 different Sku's in different colors and they will make 50 of each Sku so that is about 300 guitars. Some will have Bigsby's. MAP price is 20K and it will be interesting to see how fast (or not) these sell.

That’s fucked up. They should’ve charged $50,000. They created the KH Greeny for $20k without a braz board ???

This run of guitars are painted in Tom Murphy formulated colors but they are NOT painted by Tom. I have read the full Gibson description and seen pictures of all paperwork and COA. So basically a Murphy Lab aged R9 with a 10K Brazilian up-charge. But they will sell.

If thats the case then just another instance of dealers selling guitars and they dont even know what they are really selling. Just a few years back when Gibson sold the 18 1959 brazilians that were built for Japan but could not ship them due to CITIES those guitars only sold for $6800. At any rate no thanks! I have never been a believer in the brazilian thing and to pay a huge upcharge for something that does not make the guitar sound any better is a waste. At least for me it is.

It’s for “authenticity” purposes to have Brazilian rosewood. But nothing Gibson will do will make it any closer. Ppl will bitch about something. Hell, Gibson could produce one with braz, old growth mahogany and ppl would still find a way to bitch that it’s not accurate lol.

Now I will say the biggest downfall is pricing. The KH Greeny with a braz board was $50,000. Non braz Greeny $20000. Now ML braz 59s $20000. So you paid $30000 more for a braz board custom shop ML KH Greeny guitar. Yea I know “the experience” was set in the the price. But still. Even $20k for a braz board is too much. Because Gibson built it? A fool and his money…

Why is that sad? A lot of guys will buy a high end (new or vintage) guitar as a personal item to cherish or to record with, and not take it out to thrash on at a local bar. Who are we to tell anyone what is right or wrong to do with their money or guitar?

I don’t consider a ML to be a high end guitar. It’s a beat up new custom shop with hefty price tag that to me doesn’t reflect what I’m buying. For $10k you should be able to get a braz board custom shop. I’d think that’s be sufficient. $20k? So the ML non braz KH Greeny for $20k is a deal? I understand what Gibson’s is doing? It’s business. Yea go for it? It’s just ridiculous. A custom shop IS a high end guitar. Anything more and you’re not getting more for your money.

Does it come with the CITES paperwork so that you can travel with it? I believe there is a license you can get to be able to travel with Brazilian Rosewood instruments.

Honestly though if someone was really serious about a Brazilian fretboard what is stopping them sourcing the material themselves and supplying it to Gibson with the paperwork required to have a M2M made?
