However I'm not sure what the purpose of a public-facing inventory list might be...do you just mean some way to make them visible to those curious? Thanks again, Mat

Yes, a virtual museum for enthusiast. PRS has started to do periodic videos from their archives, that may be an idea.

But the ability to randomly access and browse the timeline online befits a company with such a deep legacy such as Gibson.

Good lord that thing is gorgeous...and looks just like the Deep Cherry Sunburst we used on the 60th Anniversary 1960 V1 LP. Not sure why it is logged in the system as Green Lemon Fade, but mistakes do happen. Where did you buy it? Do you have the box? Should have a label on it with the product description. Thanks, Mat
It was sent to me by someone who has a direct connection with you guys.

Unfortunately I didn’t get the actual box

I am looking for a Ron Wood L5S guitar. Also, is Gibson behind schedule on ‘68 and ‘57 reissue Les Paul Customs? Having trouble locating one through my usual retailers. Thank you!

Those were cool! I think the model not being well known hurt some of the demand at the time but it's Ron Wood! The coolest cat.

Gibson is backordered on just about everything right now. But we are proving our retailers with pretty accurate ETAs. Production is running smoothly at Custom Shop, even with capacity maxed out. Good choices by the way! I have a '57 LPC and lusting after a '68...dreams of a M2M Sparkling Burgundy one? Is that crazy?

Harley’s Museum series does a great job of curating their archives. Their video series is really a wonderful museum unto itself.
I have been to the Harley museum and it was quite impressive . They charge an entry fee and it has a restaurant and a gift shop . I also took a tour of the power train assembly in a separate location from the museum also in Milwaukee , which is a great town with lots to do and really fun places and great food and also home to the Bucks .

Hi Mat

I would be interested in buying a Gibson Calton case for my Les Pauls… but they are not easy to find in Europe.
Any plan to make them available at Gibson dealers in Europe?

Hi Mat, I was wondering why the fingerboard scale isn’t the same on the Historics as it is on the original guitars. The scale on Vintage Lester’s is 24.562“ I don’t understand why it change…..I’ve measured so many fingerboards over the years of working on guitars & Gibson’s we’re never the 24.75” they were purported to be. I have a Hummingbird that’s 25.5” that I got through Music Villa in Bozeman per Ren Ferguson (a person Gibson should hire back since Henry f’d him over).
Thanks!

That 0.188” is where the lost tone is. ???

Anyone have any experience with CME exclusive reissue's? I know the custombuckers have an 'S' in the middle so not sure what the difference is? Also, it's a '58 with a '59 Carmalita neck that I know very little about. What would be the difference between a '58 with a '59 neck and just a '59? Any help is appreciated!!

I’m pretty sure the “S” bucker is based on the pickups used for CC#6. They are potted, but mine seem to be very lightly potted if at all. From Gibson…

“To complete the sonic accuracy of Collector's Choice™ #6 1959 Les Paul #9-1918, Gibson Custom carefully measured the pickups in Mike Slubowski's original guitar and recreated a set of Custom Buckers wound to precisely the same specs. Details include Alnico III magnets and 42 AWG enamel-coated wire wound around distinctive "zebra coil" bobbins”

The Carmelita neck carve is based on CC#37, which is based on an original 1959 LP, hence the “59’ neck” spec.

In Gibson’s pricing scheme, the base price of an R8 is considerably less than an R9. So CME starts with an R8 plain top to keep price as low as possible. They then hand pick from the selection of “plain tops”, usually finding the not so plain ones in the bunch. Add in the neck carve and pickup spec, and you have a CME Spec R8.

Hi all. Charlie and I thought it might be fun for me to address Gibson (or Epiphone) questions in this thread...whether about current products or mysteries from Gibson's history. I think it's important to hear it straight from the horse's mouth...don't seem to have much luck getting accurately paraphrased or quoted in magazine articles.

If you don't know me, I was a longtime forum geek and I decided to put my passions to use by joining Gibson in April 2016. I started in product management for Custom Shop and Memphis and now I'm doing product development company-wide. I am also a huge Gibson/Epiphone history fan and having access to our archives is an incredible perk of the job. So fan to fan, let's have some fun!
Hey man, thats really great, hats off...all businesses should do it ?

I have been googling my brains off since yesterday, but cant find anything substancial. Im looking for info on the run of Les Paul Jr's in the early 90's. In particular the custom shop edition of the double cut tobacco sunburst.

Which years was this?
I know there where Jr's sold in the late eighties, but was that the same run as the CS edition?
And where there doublecuts in the eighties also? Havent found any proof of that.
Sales figures would be interresting but I guess thats something you keep at Gibson for Gibson only ?

I think that was all...great initative man! Like a godsend, haha i signed up here yesterday and after a while i end up in a Jr thread, and see that maybe mine was a tad more special than i had thought. I bought it from friend back in 05 i think..and it looked rough then, and yeah its rough but not bad. The sad thing is i havent played it much at all, just never got rid of it. But i have really started to get what the darn thing is.

Well.

Yeah thanks again

EDIT: yeah i thought it was a new thread started today....I´ll slow down ?

Hi friend, I hope all is well with you.
I'm a fan of Gibsons guitars, I've owned a lot and I currently own two gibson custom shop M2M guitars.
Last year I bought a 1959 Gibson M2M and I am very disappointed with the new Costa Rica-made case.
It is heavier, protects less and does not match such an expensive instrument and my M2M does not have the switch key and headstock protectors.
I would like to purchase or receive the protectors.
If you can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again !
A Jr.

*The switch key is ruining the case.

Would love to see an R8 or some fat necked LP offerings with a Floyd Rose.

I watch the Demo Shop offerings every Tuesday but nothing but skinny necked stuff.
