• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hey Burst experts, how accurate is Historic Makeovers?

Are you saying they do a good job, or is this a dig? Either way explain. I've thought about sending one of my guitars away just to experience their work.

In my case, my guitars already have hide glue set necks and fingerboards. Upgrades to mine would be to get a Brazillian fingerboard, maybe have my necks shaved a bit, as they are a bit thicker in the shoulders than I would prefer, although I get along with then fine. And maybe a nice harder thinner refin, but for the money, I don't think it would be worth it "to me" because I already like the sound of my guitars and they play good enough. The older I get the less I obsess. I record a lot with my guitars and they get the job done. But in the back of my mine I always wonder how good one of their jobs would be.
HM will do special treatments- Braz w/o a neck set- really whatever you want that they can possibly do well.

There's some shade in his dealings and I'm not talking eyewear. Honestly these forums and their worship of the quo, attack to anyone who sheds light ... all in the same breath at times. Intent apparent and not a good look on anyone. Try as many may to pull the wool it's actually saran wrap. Keep pulling.
This doesn't question his ethics???

Here we go, pages of nonsense and pile ons because you cant read. Total derail by the same people that always do this. I'm out, I really dont care how you want to lie and spin. I have no use for this nonsense.
No man- definitely not. Speak your peace. Joe doesn't have 'minions' here- and the OP was asking about HM, and that's why I inferred you were speaking about HM. Nobody asked about JB- Joe got dragged in as he'd brought an extremely valuable piece there for refinishing- further answering the OP's question.
There have been real insiders here that "crossed a line" and were taken to task for it.
But don't snipe- don't infer- and that's what your 'shady' post read as. But as of now you waddle, swim and quack like a troll.

This wouldn't be a veiled reference to the Dave Johnson exit saga?

Kim has become a good friend of mine. That’s what he becomes with a lot of his customers, from what I can tell.

Historic Makeovers are "internet famous". I haven't seen anything worth writing home about. I'd rather have Lay's Guitar Shop respray a Les Paul if I had to.

Kim did my previously owned 2013 R8. It was FANTASTIC! I loved that guitar, but when the opportunity arose to by my 1952 Goldtop I had to liquidate some things unfortunately. Kim is great to work with

I've had quite a few guitars completely done over by Kim, from way, way back... And they were all excellent!

Great guy and someone who has the ability to pull a project together, no matter what he starts with.

I highly recommend him, his people and his shop!

My experience with Kim and his staff was excellent! Nobody can copy all of the nuances of an original Burst but HM comes as close as you can get!

Kim doesn't only do the finish his detail of the shape of the headstock, Logo, Neck shape, Binding, top carve and aging ( if you decide to go that route) are unlike anyone else. However, I have had some finish issues. Specifically with the last guitar he sprayed for me the finish over the Gibson logo clouded so badly during shipment you could not even make out Gibson clearly and it needed to be sent back to be re done again. Same guitar a few months later had the finish cloud to almost a white color over the neck from the 12th fret down the heal and on to the back do once again it was fully refinished. second time it was not done by Kim.

No because you took out the who. You removed all the context. No one named Kim at any point in MY post or the quote I replied to. That was you. You inferred, projected and continue to try and start something.

Hey Steve,
I guess you were referring to JB, is that correct? Can you please expand? Some of us aren't close to his dealings or music. Thanks

I totally agree. Kim's work is outstanding and he's a great person to deal with.

Years ago I had a couple of really nice 2005 aged Murphy R9s which at the time I thought looked pretty authentic, until I had my first HM done. Side by side, the lacquer checking of the Murphys (which was done by the razor method at the time ) made the guitars look like caricatures in comparison to the HM aging. I ended up selling both of the Murphys and I now have three HMs.

Every time I see those 3 on here I feel the need to chop my bank card up to save me from myself :ROFLMAO:😰

Someone send me a burst and cover the HM on my R0 and I'll be sure to give the absolute most thorough review ever written! 👀

I was thinking of sending a Les Paul to have the top redone. Kim called me on the phone and we talked for a long time. He was an absolutely wonderfully warm individual.... In fact, he talked me out of having the work done and he was right. He could have made an easy buck, but he saved me money and I'm glad I didn't go through with it as it didn't need to be done.. That has been my experience. I suggest calling him on the phone and talking with him and developing your own opinion. I suspect you'll be pleased... A really good guy...

Did the same thing with me. When my last one graduates I am going to get DE's 14R8 Washington duplicated. Well except with a stinger (of course).
The perfect finish.
