Well, I hear ya, TW, but to some, it being Steve Hackett's LP that he played literally all of their early recordings on, that's worth the price. I realize people either love or hate their music. A 'Burst like Page's obviously has a much broader appeal, but lord does his have issues too! :salude

This is a significant guitar for sure. Steve Hackett is one of my favorite players. A very unique and melodic voice on the instrument. I wish him luck with the sale. I know he's into sustainers and tremolos on his guitars (custom-built Fernandes LP-style guitars from what I've read).

Man, I wish I had 100K to blow. This guitar interests me beyond any LP that's come around in years. So much ground breaking music played on this Les Paul with an iconic band that has sold a staggering 150 million records. Just too cool to be able to watch all the historical footage of Hackett's '57. I've never really been "into" Genesis but realize how much musical ground was broken and many doors were opened for the rest of us by the British legends. Here's a pivotal moment in history with Collins stepping out front trying to take on the recently departed Gabriel's frontman/vocalist role. Bill Bruford covering for Phil on the second kit. Who knew this "singing drummer" would turn out to be another of rock's superstars? And there's the goldtop, right there as rock history is being written:

:hmm
I see what you mean. :salude

The background of a guitar rarely holds such importance to me.
But for others it obviously does.
How to judge dollar value for that is boggling to me. :spabout

I know what you mean... a few years ago I was offered the LP Junior that Martin Barre used to record Aqualung. That was a huge, huge record for me in my impressionable years in terms of guitar playing and sound. But I chickened out because I couldn't get comfortable with the "icon upcharge."

FWIW, Hackett, Howe, and Fripp were way more influential to me in those days (early '70s) than Bloomfield, Clapton, and Green. But, with the possible exception of Howe's ES-175, I didn't get so into the actual guitars they played. Hackett in particular was one of the first guys who had the massive pedalboard going, and the sound of the guitar itself was always masked to some degree. Although it does rock pretty hard on Genesis Live. (the '73 live album with PG on vocals, I mean)

Sounds like we have the same influences at the same time in life. I would have been pretty hard for me to pass up Barre's Jr. Oh well, why couldn't I have been born rich instead of good lookin' :)
