Hi there, I've got a les paul STD. Lately I've been noticing that the fretboard is getting some kinda coating over it. Not sure if it's rusting or tarnishing... How do I remove it? I always do my best to keep the guitar clean but I'm not sure how and why is this happening to the fretboard. I'm attaching a a link to the picture below for your kind reference. Please let me know what's the problem here and how can I remove it. Thank you!

The frets are tarnished. I find that Gorgomyte cleans that up really well.

Some people have more acidic sweat than others; some just play guitars with dirty hands! nikhilsanju, do your strings go black too? If so, acidic sweat is likely the problem.

What? You get Ironwood fretboard? I've seen Rusted Root but not rusted wood. Clean/polish frets when you change strings and you'll be jake.

Looks like the frets are tarnishing a bit. Could be a lot of things causing it, but it's not really a big deal. Going forward, you might want to wipe down the strings and neck when you're done playing.
As far as cleaning them, there's lots of things that will do it - any paste should.
|Personally, I'm a bit out of the box in that I use toothpaste. I prefer something with a little grit, like Toms of Maine. Obviously it's just plain paste you need, not whitening or anything. Bonus is your fretboard is minty fresh when you're done.
