• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

hello all,

This mysterious LP Custom is being sold locally and I wanted to see if this is legit. I contacted Gibson Customer Service but they haven't responded to my email in 10 days so I thought I would ask for help here on the forum.

The seller claims that she inherited the guitar from a deceased uncle and have 0 information about this guitar. Since Gibson hasn't responded, I don't even know what year this is from.

If the members here can help me, that'd be great.

Thank you!

Looks real, but I would ask for photos of the control cavity, pickup cavities, and truss rod nut. At least try and get a photo of the truss rod nut. If she balks, walk away.

the pickup covers are REALLY clean. the gold usually tarnishes pretty easily and looking at the covers and the fading/coloration of the other features something is a little off. looks like a custom that was exposed to plenty of cig smoke over its life with the yellowing of all the binding. also the knobs the speed knobs would be wrong i believe for a R0C. Id want to hold the guitar and do some more investigating before i said yes or no. more pics would be needed alot more.

but looks to be a gibson just cant determine exactly which model

Jeeze. They came new wih amber top coat to yellow the binding. Looks like the case from late 90's early 00 era. Speed knobs not normal but easy change. 2000 instruments had no certificate or booklet. Ceramic disc caps if not changed, pots had GIBSON embossed backs. Why the first 0? Could be a thin neck 60 RI, looks legit.
