• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Sweet! The array of colors is amazing. Time treated each one kindly, but differently.

when gaston came to take the pictures, he brought his latest reissue and we took the time to compare the sound with these old ones. he was much happier with the result than the last time we did this with his other reissues. he's got a great sounding one now but like he says, nothing sounds like a burst!!!

For a 58 the color on that one is just vibrant! How on earth did it survive 45 years without the color fading? If that's the real color in the pic, its red is much like the unfaded 60s sunburst, makes me wonder if the warmer color of the 59s is due to fading compared to the more tomato red of the 60s?

Great pics Dan! Hi guys Dan's 58 is also very very clean.. It's has that very burgundy 58 colour different from the orangey 58 style colour..I remember Dan showing me the guitar.. It's really cherry on the back also....

color

the colors on the pictures are pretty true to what they really are. i bought this guitar from the original owner, who bought it sometime in 59, played it for a few months, put it back in the case and bought himself a fender. the guitar hasn't seen much light and there's not a screw that had been turned until i got it. it's truely as close as you can get to what it looked like 45 years ago!

I'd love to see a pic of the back of the '58, From the little of the sides that I can see it looks like one hell of a beautiful piece of mahogony.

..... sorry I just dribbled on my keyboard .........

Gee I just love these pic parades. This forum plus the many recent books on Bursts, eg. Vic da Pra's two and BOTB give me a good idea about what colour variations there were(with fading etc). I remember asking Tom years ago how many Tobacco Sunburst vintage LP's he'd seen, and his answer was maybe 2 or 3 only, so I'm getting to understand how precise that answer is,because where I'm from Darkburst was considered Tobacco Sunburst and vice versa, and a Cherry finish was Cherry Sunburst(well maybe not quite that extreme but I think you get my drift) because none of the dealers really knew here in NZ and in those days everything was photographed in black and white(hey, when I was 15 I swore black and blue that Eric played a Darkburst ES335 at the final CREAM concert, and was mortified when, at least a decade later, I found out it wasn't!!)

Thanks for the photos they're great.

It would be cool to have been there in early 60 and been able to compare the difference in color (if any) when the guitars were new. Anyway, beautiful pics and thanks again! Bob
