Hello to all,
I'm considering buying a 2014-15 Traditional but want forum opinions before I do so.
I'm intrigued by the 59 Tribute pickups and non-weight relieved body (in the 14').

Any experience you have to share would be appreciated.

Thanks
Randy

Don't own one but I've played a few in the shops and none have disappointed so IMO.....go for it!

Can't speak for that particular year, but I can tell you I am very satisfied with my 2017 Traditional. Good luck!

Hi Randy,

I have a 2014 Traditional with the '59's in it. I plug straight into a Twin Reverb and like what I hear when the brain, fingers and ears are all working.
I like the feel of the '50's neck as well.

Regards,

Within the scope of the 2 years 2014 and 2015 for Traditional they are very far apart.

The 2015 were not accepted by the mass market at all, from both the aesthetic and playability points, never mind the G-Force system. The wide / flat neck was the real stickler for most. Visually - the Les Paul 100 scrawl on the headstock is horrible looking. The hologram on the back of the neck? Why??? The tops and inlays for the most part were great looking.

I strongly suggest you get to play both before making a purchase.

Good Luck.

Thanks everyone for the input. I was made aware of a limited edition model produced in 2015 for the Japanese market.
Found one at a shop in NJ and it's on the way now. The only difference between the 2014 and this one is it lacks the anniversary scroll and slimmer neck diameter. I would prefer a slightly thicker neck than the 60s SlimTaper taper. The one 2014 I did play had a thick neck, any thicker and not sure I could live with it. So between the 2 I'll take my chances with the slimmer one.
Specs below:
Approx 45-50 brought into Canada
It has modern weight relief of
Carved maple top with A+ and AA tops.
Available only in Heritage Cherry Burst Nitro finish
60s SlimTaper taper neck.

Chrome hardware
Cream plastic
non-detachable pickguard
Bridge 59 tribute and neck 59 tribute humbuckers with orange drop caps on the tones.
Rosewood binding
Pearloid inlays
Classic les paul on headstock (not the wobble 100)
NO hologram
it does have the G-force tuners but early releases did not (which all made it to Japan unfortunately)
Classic Fretboard width (not the new extra wide)
No push pull pots
Bone nut (not the zero fret brass)

Sounds like a variation of the 2014 Les Paul Traditional 120 Flame Top - no 120 inlay though. The 2014 came with an uninstalled Pickguard

http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/Les-Paul-Traditional-Flame-Top.aspx

I thought the same thing. The tops on the 120 were super nice 3A or 4A if I remember correctly.
I really want a pair of the 59 tributes, the 2014 I played sounded great. This has them so I'm interested in how this one will sound compared to the 14 I played

Brain Dead on my part... no secret on my part that I'm supporting the habit by wheeling and dealing....

Had one of these pass through - was very sweet....

It was tempting to make a keeper, sold fairly quickly so i did not get too attached.

I agree Scott! I am attracted to tops with a unique look and personality. I love it when I find one that isn't a cookie cutter clone as so many can be. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I like guitars that stand apart and look interesting from my perspective. That is a very pretty one, IMO.

That one was very hard to pack up - caught an amazing deal on it, so letting it go was made a little easier with the green.

I bought a 2015 Traditional and didn't like it. Bought it unseen and unplayed from a large online retailer. There are no guitar shops selling Gibson's where I live. Thankfully I got a great deal. I've sold it since for almost the same as what I bought it for.

It had a great top and the pick ups sounded OK, but that was about it. The neck was way too big for me, there were defo some tuning issues and the Les Paul signature wasn't any better looking in real life IMO.

The limited ed version sounds a lot better reading the specs. Quite a few differences from the standard Traditional such as the neck, the nut, the hardware, the top, the case....

Just got a call from my Sam Ash rep last night - they bought 300 leftover 2015 Les Paul Traditional's from Gibson in some crazy bulk deal. They are all in Ocean Blue and selling for $1399 shipped. I immediately gave him my credit card information. These were like $2700 two years ago.

SA has them on the site at $1399 - http://www.samash.com/gibson-usa-les-paul-traditional-2015-electric-guitar-ocean-blue-glptd15ob-p

Actually they weren't going at $2700... :spabout

This why at the eve of the 2018s coming SA was offered 300 of them to sell at $1500 retail. Guessing SA got them for a Grand each.
