Hi all
I am considering a used 2012 deluxe and am wondering if anyone can tell me wether the wood is Katalox or Rosewood?
My 81 Standard has Ebony and so I would like a rosewood board rather than something that apparently is closer to ebony (katalox)
I presume all Gibson RW boards are layered these days, no?
Any thoughts?
Usually I would rather go vintage but this looks like a nice guitar for a fair price
Thx

Nope...back to one piece boards as of late 2012.

I have no idea what they used on the Deluxe, but somewhere the specs must be listed for that model.

This one is june 2012.. so probably 2 piece rosewood or 1 piece Katalox? (Apparently Gibson changed at some point during the run)

I looked for the specs on their website and couldn't find any. Google did find the old page:

Says rosewood, but probably 2 piece. If I were looking for one, I would go get the real one from the 70's. They have to be going cheap. I just looked and a mint condition one on eBay is like under 3K.

I would like a 70's one in theory, but by the time I get one here to Europe or buy one here, it is more like $4k and this one is well under half that..
Also, a mahogany neck is different to the Maple one on my standard, so mini hums/rosewood/mahogany would be a compliment to my HB/Ebony/Maple standard.

Cheers

Which, or what '81 Les Paul Standard model had an ebony board?

The heritage elite also had ebony boards iirc

Here you can see the board better

In any case, I'd like a minihumbucker LP to go with it but with a rosewood board.

Never saw that model before, I remember the CAR ones, (some with Kahlers), is this one like those? Elliot would approve I'm sure. I knew about the Heritage Elites, but no one ever refers to them as Standards. BTW from what I can see that is a ELITE body, it has the same unique shape and dish carve. Is the neck maple or mahogany? It is a very cool axe!
