• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Anyone have 1st hand experience of the short lived “Les Paul Classic Custom”?

There were two distinct versions--both very good guitars in their own right. The first was 2007-2008 and the second was 2011-2012 and the specs are quite different for each. They are both Gibson USA guitars and both are very good models. They usually command a premium price over what they originally sold for in the used market.

I have one of each and truly love them both.

I’ve since learned they are weight relieved and don’t have the ebony fret board.. so does it compare more to a standard than a custom in playability?

Hi all,
New member here!

I have 2 of them. Purchased each of them new. One is 2012 Antique Natural, the other is a 2013 Wine Red. Neither are weight relieve. The weight relieving may vary from year to year, or guitar to guitar, but I can attest that mine are not, they are both 9+ pounders.

The 2012 has a torrefied (baked maple) fingerboard. I am rather uncertain of the 2013 fingerboard material, but it looks, plays and feels just like rosewood. It is definitely not baked maple though.

The 2012 Maple board plays with more "snap" than the 2013 or my other LP's with rosewood. I don't have an actual Custom to compare to so I can't speak on that. The 2013 rosewood plays just like any rosewood standard, IMO.

Here are mine:

Thanks for the info.. it’s good hear that not all were weight relieved.. the one I’m eyeing up is a 2012.. so this must be full bodied..
tbh I’m not sure what I meant by does it play like a custom.. as tbh.. I honestly can’t tell the difference..
appreciate the input 👍

Ps.. welcome to the forum !

Pps the crown head stock LPC is killer !!

Is that based on being 9+ lbs alone? Actual Les Paul Customs are weight relieved and get in the 11 lb range. Highly doubtful a Custom Classic wouldn't be.

Well, if you are asking if i have ripped my guitars apart to see if it's been swissed cheesed, no I havent. Lol.
I am only stating that these are just as heavy as any LP I've ever slung over my shoulder.

They very well could be swiss cheesed inside and I would not know.

I suppose you could say, even if these are swissed, they are still heavyweights by anyones standards.

All of the Classic Customs (in both releases) have weight relief. The 2011-2012 version had the 9-hole Swiss cheese weight relief and the 2007-2008 version were chambered, and therefore were generally lighter. They did not make any without some kind of weight relief. Most of the 2011-2012s were between 8.5-9.5 lbs, so yours being 9+ lbs isn't unusual.

My 2011 has the baked maple fretboard and I also have several Customs with ebony (and a couple with Richlite) and I will say the playability isn't that much different. If you closed your eyes and were handed one you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference.

This is what I was read online.. so it would seem @twilt was misleading me into believing there were some without Swiss cheese..
I guess being a newbie you’ll say anything to get noticed and gain some credibility..which is very rare for this forum and never happens .. lol (I’ve never done this .. honest)
I had my hopes ups for one without the cheese holes.. but @twilt has ruined that hope .. and yes I’m milking this moment of untruths and lies that’s been told.. it’s absolutely disgusting and unforgivable
tbh.. I’ve gone off the whole classic custom thing now.. because of @twilt .. you are a ruiner of dreams and a crusher of hope.. how do you sleep and night..

I’m thinking I might change my screen name to drama lama.. 🤔

Bonjour.

Jezus. For real? This is exactly why I don't join and post on forums. I probably should have said these are not lightweight regardless of any weight relief they may have. But I didnt. My intention was not to lie, mislead or misinform anyone here. Weight relief to me means lightweight and these are certainly not that. Jokingly or not, to get called out and crucified for a misunderstanding, not nice. Fuck off. Ban me for life. Dont care.

Not real.. I was being satirical .. and trying to deflect the conversation.. it doesn’t matter.. but escalation into foul language is inappropriate. You knew I was joking but yet you felt the need to “go there” it’s easier to accept the knowledge gained from other comments and move on. We’re here to learn not defend an ego.

I had a 2007… black with multi-ply binding on the body (front only) and headstock. Ebony board and fully chambered. Was a very cool guitar, felt great, and was a great player. Traded it in a deal for an R8 that I then sold 5 months later. Should have kept the Classic Custom. Wish I had it back. Tough to find!
