• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Teles or Strats

Yes and it's kind of hard to describe, but think of a bitey tele that sparkles. If you roll down the tone knob it becomes much more Strat like. Somewhere around 5 (kinda hard to tell on Tele knobs) the sparkle rolls off enough that the punch kicks in. It's a weird setup and I finally got the action dialed in just about perfect so I did not play it a lot before now. I was actually thinking about selling it but now I can't put it down.

Actually, I don't agree with your premise.....that both are outstanding. I LOVE Teles and SG's....I hate Strats. I have owned at least 10 over the years because I always figured if everyone else loved them, I just had to find mine. Never did. To me, they are just not very good....and yeah....I know that's blasphemous to say, but it's just my opinion. Did I mention Teles are great?!?

Just picked up this MIM road worn tele. My first Fender. Pricing is very fair on these. No complaints so far.

I have both, and they are each fine specimens. If I could only have one of them it would be my Nocaster.

A tele with a Gibson mini-humbucker in the neck is what I use when I am not playing a Les Paul.

As much as I love my (Cunetto relic) Strats....

If I had to choose it would be a Tele cause they rock!

I love a good strat, that said, I pretty much love everything with strings on it... lol. I am definitely a tele before strat guy though...

I have had many teles and stupidly sold some really good ones. Here is my latest parts tele:

Tele first, last, and always. Apart from a Lester.

Strat: I have 1 57 VRI Strat, 1 62 VRI Strat, 1 Nash Partocaster Strat. That's it. No desire, zero GAS.

Tele: I have lost count of the Teles. Standouts are the 62 MIJ RI and the 52 USA Blackguard RI. But ample more MIJs, a Schecter PT, parts buckets. All preferred over the Strats. Funny I used to have in my head a Strat was where it's at especially remember my father pushing that as an ideal....

But the Tele is just oh so right and ultimately became my first electric. :salude

Tele, I have Strats as well but as I get older I'm leaning more towards simplicity. There are some great Strats out there, and there is nothing wrong with the ones I have but Tele's are more appealing due to their straight forwardness .
I've let a couple of great ones go in the past, a mij JD Tele with Joe Barden pickups, wish I still had that, and an all rosewood custom built Tele ala George Harrison, a superb tone machine equal to anything I have ever played, of any make, but was so goddamn heavy it became a chore to play standing up.
Now I have a MIM Baja Tele in black, bought from eBay for less than £300. For what these cost and especially s/hand they can't be beat, great selection of tones from pretty decent pickups and switching, and a neck profile that is one of my favourites. The only things I have changed are the saddles for compensated ones, and a mirror s/plate for some added bling haha

I have both, but if forced to choose just one, I'd have to go with a Strat because for my style it's more versatile.

A Strat, I'm much more comfortable with one, so I can do more with it.

Almost 2 to 1 in favor of the Tele.

I wasn't expecting that.

A Tele IS a Les Paul in an alternate universe.
These days I'm playing my Strat more often, but every time I hear something wild from Jim Campilongo or Bill Frisell it's a Tele & I get to wanting to play mine.
