Here are two of my kids. The blonde is a Mexican FSR that I love, and the mutt is one that I just built out of an old pine barn I tore down a few weeks ago. The center is from a black walnut tree I cut down. That guitar sounds glorious, bright and punchy, everything a tele should be.

Can you tell me more about the Mexican FSR or point me to where I can get some specs? Played one today and almost bought it on the spot. Trying to find more info on them but I am not having much luck.

As to the topic, I'm probably more comfortable with the Strat both physically and sonically but a good Tele is a good Tele (even if it's an Esquire).

Oops! Never mind, found it!:dang

It's a 2 piece ash body, standard Fender pickups, original 3 barrel bridge, and a reversed control plate (which I like a lot). Mine has a great neck on it, the finish is beautiful, and the thing plays like butter. My only complaint is that it is definitely on the heavy side, mine almost weighs 8lbs. I am a bigger guy so I'm not usually bothered by a heavy guitar (I've got an unchambered LP that weighs almost 9lbs), but some people like them light.

I have the Copperburst FSR that has the same setup, but alder body. It's a GREAT budget Tele (or any level Tele really) but the weight of mine is killing me. My back can't do the 10+ pounders anymore.

the Stratocaster - really is Fenders ES 335 (most versatile guitar) IMO :peace2 - now 1. 2. 3. FIGHT ya buggers!!!

no really, when all the old guard played Gibsons they sounded the same when they played Stratocasters they got the voice that is instantly recognizable as theirs, and goes in the history books the quintessential electric guitar sound (also IMO :peace2)

on a lighter note, 67 black cherry, you have all those stunning Stratocasters in all those magical colours made by the guy that Fender masterbuilt guys wank on about as being the ducks nuts... and you chose a rotten TELE!!! :dang let down pal! :roflhaving ya on mate, you have a great collection! ... drooling ... real bad

Im not sure what 67BlackCherry's teles are, but the first guitars Vince took to shows were blackguards. I believe the market on those is quite a bit higher than most of the strats, but they only made the nocaster.

Good guitars, but not so good for collecting like all those custom color strats which can quickly empty your pocket book after you hear and play one :wah

No worries DMartini, it's all good!

But that 'nocaster Relic is AMAZING! Bought new in '97 after failing to find a nice vintage maple neck Tele that grabbed me, this after looking for a few years at all the vintage shops in Hollywood and the guitar shows as well; I even had a good budget to work with but...nada.
Friend of mine had a '52 blackguard and when we A/B'ed both guitars, his had a slightly more "bell like chime" than mine (acoustically) but plugged in, mine sounded as good if not better.
Vince (Fender) took blackguards & MK strats to the NAMM Show and me being a vintage snob (at the time) told the Fender rep that marketing gimmick (relic) was the stupidest thing I had ever heard...two years later, playing that Tele for the first time, I was sold and started buying them up; I noticed a difference when they let Vince go and started the relic process in house in '99, I started searching out the ones with the embossed logo on the headstock.

My Teles:
AllParts B-Bender
Cunetto Relic 'nocaster
CS Tele Custom Relic (amazing guitar as well, limited edition run from 2005, only 200 made)
AllParts Paisley Tele

Those are all Cunetto Relics and the custom colour Strats are pretty amazing, I've only missed a few colours (Purple, Sherwood Green & Teal Green metallic) on eBay and I've seen a Shell Pink but it's not for sale.
They sound great but the solid colours (Daphne Blue, Fiesta Red, Seafoam Green) sound slightly better than the metallic (Burgundy Mist, LPB, Shoreline Gold) they have a more woodsy tone with the s/b rosewood neck sounding best to me.

Sorry for the long reply - I'm pretty passionate about my Cunetto collection!!

More Tele's than Strats, so Tele's it is.:salude

Another tele here.

I picked up a Lite Ash Tele some years ago. I liked the bridge pickup (SD Alnico II) yet wasn't thrilled with the neck pickup (dull and dark). I installed a nice bright pickup in the neck and she's my go to Fender.

I played a strat and a 335 for 30 or so years . Now play tele as #1 guitar. Tele's are too real for most other guitars to surpass.:salude

I went from SG to LP to Teles to Strats. I had some very odd views of Strats as a youngster- too common- too boring- everyone has one. Then I got one and it hugged in all the right places. Nothing I love more than a plain Jane of a Strat that plays and sounds like a monster.

I flirt with with other guitars to give her frets a rest and when I go back it's always great. I don't own a Tele at present, after playing them for so many years as well. I could never get one with the right neck. I'd like to get a custom with a fuller neck or go for a black guard CS jobby.

Tele's have a more pleasing general tone for me. A lot of the typical Strat sounds I am not keen on and never use. There'll be nothing thin sounding or quacking coming from my dungeon.

I suggest that you try a CS Nocaster when you get a chance, especially if you like full necks - they are IMO the best of the CS Tele bunch.

The Teles with no name- perfect. Never tried one and so will put it on the list, thanks Red. I know there's a Tele or 2 with my name on them somewhere.

As I LUBS me pictures, that is what this one is. A Wildwood 10 CS Nocaster. 10 inch radius neck which is very large and 2 twisted Tele pickups. Awesome sounding instrument at a pretty reasonable price.

Exquisite Ren! That one would do me nicely. That last pic looks like the Nocaster is looking down on the earth from the Telesphere.

Like everybody and their dog, I write, perform, and record my own music.

The song and what I hear in it usually dictates which guitar I use, and I cross many genres.

So different songs call for different guitars.

I love Teles and Strats, and they're so different; one is no better or no worse than the other.

It's all in what you want to hear and in how well your gitbox plays.

Like I said in my earlier post I've mainly been a Tele guy but that has since changed after getting my 1960 CS Strat, I just can't put the ting down :dude:

But I love all my players for different reasons however nothing is more versatile than a Fender for me :salude

well we can all pretend all of our children are equal but each and every one of us knows which one we'd trip for the bear to eat if we had to :rofl

I've done some horse trading and I'm back to 3 guitars with the addition of this Danocaster which I like a LOT, but if it came down to it this would be the first to go; conversely you'll pry my 1960 relic strat from my cold dead hands
