• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Above I listed a riff this would be for best guitar solos? From the Allman Brothers first album "Don't want you no more/It's not my cross to bear". Listen to it on vinyl. I guess there is newer CD release that has been remastered and sounds much better than the Allman Brothers "Beginnings" CD. The "Beginnings" CD takes sweetness, magic and tone from this masterpiece!

What I played up in my guitar room this morning. (and no, it wasn't a Page lick or anyone else's but my own)

Too bad none of y'all were there to hear it. :jim

(my point being that, if the best riff and/or solo has already been played, then we all might as well quit)

If "Sunshine Of Your Love" was played on an LP (who knows the truth?) then my vote is for that as best riff/solo combo. Otherwise it'd have to be "Heartbreaker", "All Right Now" or "Sweet Child O' Mine". Maybe "MF From Hell" by The Datsuns. If you're into AC/DC and Led Zep type stuff check them out.

It's only for fun Kingsleyd. Try and play along.....

I am playing along! I was REALLY enjoying what I was playing today. That, to me, is way better than listening to a record, even one I really like.

I was wondering what everybodies thought was on this subject.
Last night, i was listening to Guns and Roses on my ipod and nightrain
came on.. Man, Slashes solo in this song in friggin awesome. One of my favorites. I started thinking what other great solo's have been played or recorded on a Les Paul...

Any thoughts?.....

Great thread BurstBrian! I believe, from what I have read, (and if you look at some of the pic's on the AFD album) is that Slash did not record Nightrain on a L.P.. At that time he played many different guitars, like Jackson's and BC Rich's. Whatever guitar he used that song still kicks ass. :dude

As for me, seeing Randy Rhodes playing his custom, is what made me want a Les Paul. I remember watching that video at Rainbow Rock in NJ (if any of you grew up in Brick) and being hypnotized by Randy's awesome playing. Everytime I hear that song it takes me right back to that shop and seeing that video. It wasn't till years later that I got my first Les Paul.

Lyle Preslar and Brian Baker (Minor Threat) used Les Paul's. One of hardcore music's most influential bands ever. Brian still uses 'em with Bad Religion. So, any song from M.T. gets my vote.

Great solos/riffs posted here, people! :dude

My addition: 'Still in love with you' from Thin Lizzy's 'Live and Dangerous'. Scott and Brian both playing a great solo there.

Clapton with the bluesbreakers album has got some great riffs throughout.
When I heard that album when I was 14 (a few years ago now) my world changed.

One of my favourites is the small intro/riff Page plays about 2:30' from the beguining in "Whola lotta love"...
