• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

The flight was really very good. The steward who was outrageously gay had me in stitches as he did the flight safety demonstration in a very tongue in cheek manner that reminded me of the Foo Fighters video.

I ordered a couple of Scotches to celebrate the fact I'd made it on the flight as I looked out my window to see the clouds bubbling up in a spectacular display over the distant Mountains where I had been earlier that day.

It was a fitting end to my journey.

Did the Argo travel the entire way in the Lifton? If so, any augmentation to the padding or latches (strap)?

I actually swapped cases for my 2017 Les Paul case.

The 2019 case is I think more like the 50's style case so it only has one proper latch on it and the rest are small catches that aren't very reassuring. That case is also very heavy compared to the other one and the guitar does move around a little in side it.

So I thought it best to swap cases especially since originally I was going to have it shipped back to me and the extra weight would probably cost more to ship. Plus the other case was lighter to carry around and it supports the guitar much better.

Well done. I was worried for a while...

Well I've got the studio booked for Sunday so I can attempt to make some clips. So at least there's something there to look forward to. I've been busy tweaking the set up here and there and I'm enjoying it more and more. Still can't believe its here and it's mine. Haha... 😆😆😆😆

I don't have any of the new post 2019 cases. Does it say inside anywhere where they are made? My favorite cases are the ones that were made in the late 90's and early 2000's. They are made in Costa Rica. Same thinner design and latches as the cases of old. I wouldn't worry about flip up latches. I have never found one to open on its own, but I have found the other latches open on occasion even from a simple bump.

Yeah the 90's - 2000's cases were awesome, with the nice fluffy lining. They supported the guitar nicely.

The 2017 case is like that but it's a padded fabric lining.

The 2019 is more of a lifton replica. Same case Paul Kossoff's guitar fell out of because of the rubbish catches. It's also heavy as hell, probably heavier than the guitar.

I'll post some pictures.

The late 90's early 2000's Lifton cases were like the old 50's cases with that same pink lining, but it is not very fluffy. Before they went to the deeper Lifton cases with the double head rests. Looking at pictures it looks like they have gone back to the single head rest, but it is hard to tell in pics how deep the case is. If they have a place of manufacture I am curious what it is. I have put a couple links to the Costa Rica case.

Did some more looking and have found out the new cases are made in Canada. Now I just have to get one in my hands to see how it compares to the older Costa Rica case.

So those cases in the links are like my 2019 lifton case. My 2017 case is different. I bought a Standard I think it was in 20000, it was when they revised all the specs. I also bought a Classic the following year. Both those guitars came with cases im pretty sure were made in Canada, they had a more heavy duty light Brown textured vinyl covering and furry pink lining. Pretty sure they had Gibson USA printed on the lower corner. Nothing like the other cases I mentioned. I think they were actually better cases.

I'll post pics later today. I think there is a tag inside to say where they are made. Theres definitely a tag in one of them.

You are thinking of the regular brown Gibson cases. They came in a variety of styles over the years. Some had a silk like shroud and some even had a furry shroud. In the late 90's and into the 2000's the historics came in a Lifton case like the late 50's Lifton cases. They were made in Costa Rica. Sounds like people prefer them to the new cases that are like the late 50's cases again, but I will leave that judgement for myself when I see one in person.

I want an update after you've owned it for 6 months.
That's the true test.
The guy loves his guitar. Aesthetically he LOVES the way it looks, he feels Florian improved the feel of the neck, Florian personally set it up to his taste in person, and, most importantly, the dead spots are gone, and that's why he sent it off for the makeover. Sounds to me like he got everything he wanted, and, what he paid for. It already passed the "true test".

Remember your post..."Best of all, when I play it, it feels like some mad scientist figured out how to get inside my body and make MY guitar. That was worth the wait."

Well in this instance, I'm pretty sure Revolver1 would say Florian was the mad scientist that got into his head!

This post has been one of the best rides that I've taken in a long time on the LPF forum. Thanks you Revolver1 for the updates, especially the pictures of Florian's work. I was so glad to hear you guitar turned out great. I was rooting for you and Florian all the way!!!

I 've never been a fan of relic'ing, but your guitar looks great, especially the back of the neck and the way it fades into the body. It just looks like you would pick it up and play, and not worry about putting a little ding into it like you would a perfectly shiny guitar.

So big CONGRATS to you!

Also I was super impressed on how you dealt with some of the dickish remarks on this thread. Instead of taking offense you just stated your case and moved on! Truly a class act!

Thanks rockabilly69 I appreciate the kind words.

Yeah, sorry Subliminal. The furry cases I was referring to were just the USA standard not the Historic. I couldn't afford a Historic back then.

So the top picture is the 2017 case made in Canada and bottom is the 2019 made in Costa Rica.

Maybe explains why the 2019 is so heavy, the lining is probably stuffed with Drugs, Guns and Money.... 😂🤣😂🤣

Had a bit of a disastrous time trying to get the clips together. The boss was away for the weekend and there was a new lad there at the rehearsal studio. He had a bit of trouble with the booking system. I had to call him back because there was a chance he might have a cancellation on Sunday so I could get in there.

Anyway I go down there drag all my gear out, takes about an hour to set it all up. I go get a coffee and start playing for about 10 minutes then he comes in very apologetic and says he's messed up and theres someone else booked in in an hours time. So I had to stop and pack it all up.

I ended up going back yesterday and did it. So today I have to go through it and do a weetransfer to Florian so I can get the link to post it.

Because I'm using the free service theres a limit to how much I can transfer in a day so it may take a couple of days to get it together so just hold tight and I'll get it done as soon as I can. 👍🍻
