Hey everyone I'm back, The Argonaut has landed and what a trip it was....

As you know it was snowing in Oberstdorf only a few days ago so I was prepared for the cold, but the weather did a complete about face and when I arrived in Munic it was 25 degrees. So I was completely over dressed and sweltering.

The journey was much easier this time round since I knew where I was going and how things work. It also didn't hurt now the days are drawing out, it was daylight rather than the bleak darkness and the dead of winter that confronted me the last time.

Munic had really come to life with the arrival of Spring, it was a completely different place buzzing with people.

So I got checked into my Hotel room and then with a few hours to kill, went out to track down a Beer. I looked over at the so called "Sports Bar" I went to the last time but thought better of it. There was a place a few doors up that looked alright so I decided to check it out and It was great, they were serving proper German Beers there.

So I sampled a few of their best whilst sat outside watching the world go by and the Swifts dancing high in the twilight. It was very enjoyable.

Up early the next morning and away to the Train Station to get my ticket. It all went smoothly this time and so I was on the 09:20 to Oberstdorf. With coffee in hand I settled in for the scenic journey ahead.

With Spring in the air everything looked completely different with a new lease of life. I saw wild Deer and Birds of Prey with the Mountains ever present, looming in the distance marking my final destination.

I arrived in Oberstdorf and made my way to Florians. It was a strange mix of emotions I was feeling and I didn't know why. I felt extremely excited but also strangely nervous with anticipation at the same time. Not about seeing Florian, I was very much looking forward to that but it was all quite overwhelming. I think that's the right word for it.

Florian took some shots to mark my arrival.

Florian welcomed me in with smiles and helped put me at ease as he offered me some of his great espresso. We relaxed out side by the mountain stream that runs past his house and had a good chat about allsorts. Very nice.

Then the time came to focus our attentions on The Argonaut. I have to admit the one thing I was feeling nervous about was the back. The photograph that was posted looked quite different to all the other shots I have of it and I was unsure of what it was actually going to be like.

This uncertainty was quickly dispelled as I lay eyes on it for the first time. It looks truly awesome, even better in person but this short video of me opening the case for the first time showes the back as it appears in person.

When opening the case for the first time you can see 1000 forum questions racing through @Revolver1 mind.. and then all confirmed, denied and reassured..in a split second..

Amazing job.. congratulations.. and thanks again for taking us on your adventures and journey.

Three cheers for the Argonaut 🍻 !!

Florian was very generous with his time. We spent the afternoon playing and talking as we played around with the set up. He wanted to be sure I was 100% completely happy and honestly I was more than just happy.

The finish is nothing short of amazing, absolutely no complaints from me here and no flecks of Gold on the back.

The front changes colour under different lighting situations and showes three different shades of Gold. Some times if you catch it right you can see all three shades at the same time. This is accentuated by the belly and contours of the top carve. It ranges from a Bronze Gold to a really deep Bronze and then the more Green / Amber shade of Gold. It's very interesting and engaging to look at. It looks very classy indeed.

The back just looks absolutely beautiful and is just as engaging as the front to look at.

The top carve looks even better in person. And the re-carve of the neck is wonderful. Florian was quite subtle with it so it still retains a reassuring size but the shoulders have been shaved slightly making it very comfortable in hand all the way up the neck.

The ageing is perfectly executed, its really just as I had hoped for. Standing back a couple of feet you can't really see it but up close the subtle detail is revealed. The photographs posted really show the detail almost like under a magnifying glass but in person it's far more tasteful and subtle.
The checking of the top is awesome. Again very subtle, it sometimes catches the light to reveal itself. The back is the same, very natural looking and you have to look for it or catch it in the light.

All the hard wear has also been very tastefully aged to match as well and it really looks the part. It looks way better than most of the aftermarket stuff I've seen around.

All in all, hand on heart it's definitely next level in the looks department. I could look at it all day long.

Its actually my Wedding anniversary today so I really need to spend some time with the Wife.

But I'm hoping to take it down to the rehearsal studio later in the week and I'll attempt to make another short clip of it through my Plexis and well see what that sounds like.

I also forgot to mention, the fret job is amazing, it's so smooth when sliding your fingers up or down the board, Florians done an amazing job there. It's by far the best out of all my others.

And the sound of it has improved dramatically, I was quite shocked and of course no more dead spots to be heard anywhere. Infact I don't think I've ever experienced a guitar like it before. The clarity, definition and articulation is astounding and it's like this all the way up the neck. I've never played anything like it and it's not a subtle thing it really is very noticeable. Its certainly hard to put down when you start playing it.

Haha, it was overwhelming almost like my mind had gone blank. But here's a short video of the first few chords played through Florians Tweed Delux, it's a very nice amp!

Lovely job; yeah that neck finish is wonderful and seems like the new profile is wonderful as wel.

Sounds great straight into that Tweed...

Congrats on the successful journey, thanks for having us along for the ride.

Enjoy your anniversary, and please extend my congrats to Mrs Revolver1!

Then... get back to posting more of the Argo.

The afternoon flew by.... I really enjoyed my time there with Florian and was very appreciative of all the information he shared with me and also making sure I was completely happy with everything. But all good things must come to an end and I felt it was time to make a move.

We braught the afternoon to a conclusion and said our goodbys but I had a very strong feeling this wouldn't be the last time we would see each other. It wasn't goodbye forever, just goodbye for now.

I then headed back to the Hotel, I got to my room and thought hey I'll just have a quick 10 minutes playing before I go out but 2 hours later..... it really is very hard to put down once you start playing!

I eventually headed out and had a couple of Beers while watching the sun set over the Mountains it was very picturesque and a wonderful end to a brilliant day.

I must have been exhausted, maybe it was the Mountain air but I slept very well and woke early feeling great.

I then made my way to the station, it was a beautiful morning and the cool, crisp Mountain air felt energising. I got my ticket and boarded the Train coffee in hand for my journey back to Munich. My time in Oberstdorf had come to an end but it had been the ideal way to bring this whole experience to a conclusion in the best possible way.

So it was back to the Airport for my flight back to England. I wanted to share this last bit because it may be of interest for anyone wishing to take a flight with a guitar.

When I flew the first time I booked my tickets on-line which wasn't a problem. I just booked 2 tickets in my name and they happily took payment.

I then encountered a bit of a problem when it came time to do the on-line check in to get the boarding passes. The system wouldn't allow me to use the same Passport to check in two separate seats. So when I got to Heathrow I went to the service desk and explained my situation. They were very good, took my details, disappeared for five minutes and then came back with two boarding passes for me. I thanked them very much and that was all there was to it.

But this wasn't the case at Munich Airport. I attempted to do the check in and encountered the same problem. So I headed to the service desk. The assistant couldn't get his head around the fact I had bought two tickets and wanted me to book the guitar in as excess baggage but he eventually understood this guitar ain't going in the hold.

He directed me to another service desk where I queued for 45 minutes and eventually spoke with someone who quite literally had a complete meltdown at the situation. Apparently I should have phoned the Airline to make the booking so the tickets would be registered as one passenger and the instrument. I do wish they could have told me that at Heathrow the first time. Apparently it would have been slightly cheaper as well.

This is all very well but all I wanted to know is what do I do now? Does this mean I can't fly or what? I explained I had the same issue flying from Heathrow and they fixed it in five minutes, she asked me how they fixed it and I'm like, how would I know? But she just kept going round in circles chastising me for my error. Eventually she exclaims she can't help me and I'm thinking I can't believe I've just sat and listened to all that and she couldn't even help. Just tell me what I need to do!
She was actually very nice in the end but I'm thinking I've just waisted an hour here and achieved nothing. This was starting to cut into valuable drinking time!

So she then directed me back to the service centre. I said I'd already been there and it was them that directed me to her. But she explained I needed to get a ticket and go in, the guy I spoke with before was just the receptionist and knew nothing!

So back I go and the guy at the desk is insisting I book the guitar in as excess baggage but I insisted I needed to take a ticket and see someone. So I get my ticket and wait. Eventually I get to see someone and again this poor fella has a complete meltdown and I'm like look what do you want me to do?

After about a half hour he figured a way to adjust and correct the booking but he said it was going to take a while. He was very good really, I could tell it was a huge headache for him. Not his fault, just a case of computer says no! The system wasn't set up to fix the problem. Three of his supervisors got involved and they were just as perplexed. But eventually he got it done.

I was very grateful, it had taken two hours for him to straighten it all out. It was just lucky I got to the Airport in plenty of time.

So big lesson learned. If your going to fly with a guitar don't book it on line and don't waist your time with the online chat they will try an direct you to because it's useless. Talk to someone, phone the Airline to make your booking and avoid the headache.... 👍
