• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Okay,I hear the complaints about yet "another" dirty lemon. So - the question is - what colors do folks expect? Original bursts today that are copied are either unfaded cherry sunburst, deep cherry sunburst, tea burst, or Lemonburst and all variations in between. What is Gibson supposed to do? I haven't seen any vintage Bursts that are blue, green, or purple. Maybe someone here has.... :hmm

I would have to agree with Mike here.

What do you guys expect? As the majority of "famous" Bursts are dirty lemon or a close variation of it.

Perhaps Gibson should release CC# versions in 'modern faded' and 'original' finish that way you guys could have a choice of TWO colours! :##

Surely the pleasure is in the recreation of the details of the original instrument not just the colour?

The tops for Skinner may be easier to source but that is my kinda figuring and this looks to be one of the best ones yet.

I would, however, like to see a few Dark Bursts appear. Pages 130 and 132 of BOTB would be nice :2cool

I get your point but how many Lemons are there CC wise compared to the other colors?

I will say that this CC (Skinner) is a real looker just at a start. I really dig it.

I think that is kinda what some of us are saying. :dude:

Nobody is forcing you to buy this guitar. If you don't link the guitar, or think it's an overpriced POS, or a "repackaged" R9 then don't buy the guitar.

Don't ruin it though for the people that are big fans of the original and are looking to get a nice tribute to the replica.

Didn't see where anybody said it was an overpriced POS or a repackaged R9....your words not mine. I said it was getting hard to differentiate them by looks alone. Post some pictures when you buy yours.

They all were the same color, more or less in 59. But it ain't 59 no more and Dorothy we ain't in Kansas no more. The CC program aims to clone a specific Burst of note. I was lucky enough to see the Skinner when Joe showed me some of his fine guitars, and I heard it played by him and can only say, HELL YES!!!

It is impossible to match an existing top. IMPOSSIBLE. Nature doesn't work that way. As with ALL the previous CC's most will be outstanding, many will be exceptional, and all will have the vibe and feel the original. That's how they all have been. If you think not, don't get one but to feel the urge to post lame putdowns and negative crap, EVERY time another one is announced has gotten old.

The guitar is finished to look like the original does now. WTF!!!!!

Burstbucker #3 in the neck? Interesting. Custombucker in the bridge. After spending a lot of time playing my 13' R8 I'm thinking I love the Custombucker in the bridge of my guitar but not so much in the neck position (especially when playing clean through a Fender amp.).

My Hamer Monaco Superpro uses a Duncan Custom Custom in the neck spot. It's a bit hotter than a BB3.

Jol Dantzig explains it here:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/showthread.php?173887-Guest-Luthier-Series-Jol-Dantzig/page2

Jol said they pretty much went through Seymour's line of pups before deciding on the Custom Custom. The intended goal of the pup choice was to use the Superpro in a Jazz/Prog vein. Jol's take was that the hotter neck pup could be lowered further away from the strings to yield a clean yet full tone without being weaker than bridge in the middle position.

It works well. :peace2

You guys crack me up!!
Seriously though, what's the price on the Skinner? I don't need to know what you've paid or were quoted for your orders, I can figure out what the dealer cost is all on my own..
Thanks!

I think this 1 looks great. Maybe even the nicest yet . The tops should be easier to get close to for many of the guitars in this run which is good for all those wanting 1 .

Not being a fan of the whole CC thing , I would keep in mind ,from what many have written about their CC's , the best thing about these CC runs are the bump in quality . The color is what the Originals are/were . So many wanted , as close to Original as possible . Now complain ? :hmm

Pay more ? yes . But that's the name of the game . If i didn't have 1 waiting for me now , I'd be considering buying 1 of these .

Still some Specs from the real 1 would be great to know and specs from The CC run, to see how close they are made would be a great help to those interested in getting 1 .

Spec's? The CC's are suppose to be digitally scanned clones of the original's neck & top. I'd say they're pretty right on the money. However the only CC I've played is #6 (Mike Slub's). To me it felt like an old Burst. I've played somewhere in the range of 60-75 original bursts and also a number of GT's and Customs. The first Les Paul I ever played was a 1959 3-pickup Custom. That was in 1968 so the guitar was only 9 years old..
