• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Let's hear it for the Les Paul Studio!

Nice to see some love for LP Studio's.

It's always about finding that nice piece of wood. Never buy a guitar because of the pickups. The truth is that they can't hide the naturel tone of the guitar. It's definately all in the woods. Pickups can screw up the tonal balance of the guitar OR they can be 'a fresh upgrade' with exactly the right balance/output for the particular guitar.

Pickups don't have 'tone'. The guitar is the one that has the tone. Never fix something if it ain't broken, cause wood lives, thus wood can fight back to ya.

I've had a Custom that I upgraded with boutique pickups, pots and caps and they didn't make the guitar sound better, period. You have to deal with it.

I've played some very crappy sounding Les Paul Studio's (dull, which is already noticable unplugged), including one great sounding LP Studio Premium Plus. The Premium Plus was a beast, with a tone to die
for.

Just threw some creme, and some gold knobs on Buttercup, the back pocket/toggle cover are still black... but i think it looks nice like this, one of the screws on the rhythm pickup ring was stripped, guess i can snag one from a local dealer.
It was black on black originally, i saw one similar at my near by sam ash today, a chambered one, it's so light i was afraid to hold it, it felt fragile, almost like a Ric.

Sorry, old Thread..., but:
With which technique you've created this photo?
Its very Good!

Heh, that's just using an old Sony T1 Cybershot Camera set on macro mode and held close to the body. Very low-rent. :)

it's not ALL about the wood. My Studio was a nice guitar with the standard 490/498 pickups, but fortunately for me, my brother decided the SD antiquities he bought for his 60RI didn't suit it and I got a very good deal on them. The more vintage output of the Antiquities suits my guitar very well indeed, thank you bro.:2cool

i love my studio, but sadly i very rarely play it because it doesnt measure up to my R8, but if i didnt have the R8 it would be my main guitar.

I too bought a studio as a backup/second guitar to my standard. Its definately a keeper. It has a different tone to the std, brighter and more cutting plus its really comfortable to play. Mines a 2000 model with 3/4 size trapezoid markers, in ebony and gold hardware.

I love the Wine Red Studios.

I have a beat up old 1991 that plays and sounds amazing:

I also have a brand new Wine Red / Gold that doesn't play or sound quite as nice...... but is still really awesome. I love it just as much:

I like Studios. But of all the Studios, the Vintage Mahog, chambered (06-07??), in worn brown are my absolute favorite! I would never have sold mine were it not for a certain LPC that popped up. But that VM, what a guitar for so little dough!!! And much better than the Tributes, IMHO (now don't get mad at me owners ...IMHO, remember :) ).

Oh wait ...the Studio Gems! Yeah, those are awesome too, not to mention a bit on the rare-ish side. I loved mine and would have kept it were it not for the fattish neck. Killer P90 tone and played superbly. Again, a better guitar than the Trib ...hahaha :)

i got some new pups for my r8 a while back and just recently put the BB 1&2 in my studio along with some rs super pots and vintage soviet PIO caps. thing sounds pretty damn good. way different tone than my r8 but still very good. just wish it had a fatter neck.
