Who knows Virgil Arlo?

The p'up's sold with this name are targeted to the high-paying segment of the demographic.

Even though there's social media footprint about the products, I can't find a single picture of him to save my life, which I find it strange.

So I ask: have anybody personally met him? Does he even exist?

Inquiring minds would like to know. ;)

Just yesterday read speculation that hes not an actual winder but the creation of a marketing firm. Sounded like there's another pickup brand, Tone Specific, that shares the same address among other things (packaging, endorsed artists, etc). The Virgil brand targets the high end of the market while the other the lower end.

That's an edited quote of a message posted in the MyLesPaul Forum:

Virgil Arlo is a real person that makes real pickups. Like other professional he choses to use an easy to say pseudonym thats not too different than his god given name.
Well, by own admission of the Tone Specific's owner, for the looks of it, "Virgil Arlo" is a pseudonym.
Because the so called "legend" of p'up making doesn't want you to know his real name? :bigal
Man, you just can't make this stuff up! :##

I don't think it's the case here.

For all I've learnt about the insofar four domains, virgilarlopickups.com, virgilarloamps.com, tonespecific.com and guitartone101.com, are all managed by the nameless and faceless "Tone Specific guy", with the scope of selling the same products with different prices, and maybe running one of'em as a Ponzi scheme so the sales of one, which calls for an "eight-week waiting period", it's used to fund the necessary parts inventory to build and ship the other brand, which requires only a one-week period, so they can secure a "cash cushion" to fall back on, if some part of the operation goes wrong.

Neither virgilarlopickups.com or tonespecific.com would disclose any technical specs of the different models offered, so my suspect is that they just sell the same tried-and-true winding recipe thay have with different model names and even brand name. Kinda "one-size-fits-all" thing.

The big red flag common to all four domains is, no physical address is listed, and even the return address of the products are private shops providing packaging and postal services.

I haven't yet heard any complains about paying for undelivered goods, mind you; but I'd go with the "duck test":

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably IS a duck.

Or, "better be safe than sorry". ;)

"Virgil Arlo"

An anagram for "Lolar Virgi", which of course means that they are Lollar pickups made under license in Virginia...

I had to join this site just to comment on this, sure are is a bunch of negative speculation here about VA,
looks like no one here has used said pick ups, you can send an e-mail to them to ask questions, have any of you even tried that?

I have no dog in this fight, other than being a paying and very picky customer, VA has ben very accommodating, and is recently having medical issues.

the speculation here is just out of control guys, get a grip, ask questions, get answers, but geez stop all this.

That's the narrative chosen to go with the inexistent "Virgil Arlo" to justify paid for, but yet undelivered orders maybe?

I don't buy it. Nothing around this brand is credible.Starting with all the shills that sign up just to ravish about either Virgil Arlo and Tone Specific products, having the same thing in common: nobody signs up with a name or provide any personal info. All are produced by the same guy, as the same speech pattern strongly suggests. You, TS guy. Speech patterns are like fingerprints. You can run, but you can't hide... ;)

Shall we speculate about who would bother to join the forum just to make a post like this?

What I do NOT have to speculate about, is.......

no one has contacted VA to ask even single question, also clearly not even use said product.

yet insist on yet more more speculation ?

ya not hard to figure out a all......you guys have lost your minds.....

pound sand speculators......pound sand. must all be liberal's? like the truth does not matter to any of you does it? just a "in lock-step" speculation about a company..
and I have a problem with that, and with this wild speculation, it just that simple, and is slanderous, something you could very well end up in a courtroom over, you can’t hide behind a screen name...once that whole ball starts rolling, unlikely yes, but it is true.
the worst part is it just very uncool! And doing so with speculation?
Why? Why is it you have not contacted va? Why as a simple customer , do I get called a shill?

I am as exactly as I said, a paying customer, who you could learn something about said company from, instead, I am called a shill? wow.....

two things I do not do , build pickups, or mic capsules, I do build bunch of stuff for studios, mic pres, compressors, eq's, I have played a few pafs in my day.
I have one set of VA's Pafs, and the are great pafs, many people use them, recorded with them, and I do not have to defend the tone of them.
delivery was exactly as stated, and they have responded to every question, and in a timely and friendly manner.
sorry if this real customer experience does not at all match your fake and wild speculation.
i call a duck a duck, and this speculation is nothing but exactly that.

Why do I have to work for the freeking ARMY, if a shill? watch your step about who you call what with me son, way out of line .

and shame on you for the name calling....geez get yourself together....pathetic

watch your step about who you call what with me son,
Menacing tone? Really? You're in the army? Really?

OMG, I'm shaking... pops! ;)

You say you're a paying customer, isn't it? Then you won't mind to show proof of purchase, in the form of a document, signed order and/or receipt.

In doing so, you'll prove me wrong. But, I'm more than sure that's simply never going to happen, isn't it soldier?

Talk is cheap. Put your money where your mouth is, or shut up. What is it gonna be, pops?

Well...? I'm waiting...
