Are you sure it's a real Historic? There were quite a few Replicas made with wild quilt or other outrageous maple back during that period, and the only way to tell them apart is it the seller knows about it and tells you. The tags and documentation papers are available for purchase at a number of places. Here is a link to a quilt Top I have that was made by a friend.http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1516062&a=13583450&p=52513928

It's a pre-99. If you find the right buyer, you may get some serious dough for it.

Now excuse me while I test pickups, filter caps, and expound on the virtues of long tenons.
;) :lolspin

Mike: The prices have been all over the place on pre-99 R9s. I've seen them selling for $3.5k to $10k depending on the condition and top. That one is a great top. The killertops of 1999, including some with great quilts like that one, had a street price of about $5.5k at the time they came out, if that gives you a feel.

The guy I purchased from paid $6500, he said ... talked the dealer down from $7500.

Quilts are more rare, but, I'm told, less desirable than flame.

There's a NAMM show '99 Quilt Historic listed at Guitar Hangar for $8499. But those prices are usually closer to list than retail....

Toss it up on Ebay and see what happens, some guys really want the pre-99's and pay well for them. A friend of mine just sold a real nice '96 for $3500, I thought he could have gotten more.

Quilts

Quilts are a mystery to me. Dealers go ga-ga & raise prices for quilts...yet they could not be farther from a - typical - original 59' issue than a 57' chevy convertible. Birdseye maybe, but quilts?

Quilts definitely have their own fans, I have seen several new 2000 59'AAA quilts go for $5,500.

Have'nt personally seen a 2001 quilt.Probably means they would be $6,500.?

mikeyg00,
I would of started the bidding out at a lower price, but keep your reserve where it's at!
Reason being a lot of guys like the "thrill" of being able to be on top and have a bunch of bids in on the auction.
Just a suggestion.

I have to agree with the pyschology. Too late for me now, though, got one bid ...
