• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What are the odd's? Seriously crazy LP Weekend!

Okay, I collect, buy and trade cool guitars just like all of y'all do.

But I don't just buy 'em online I love the HUNT! So these days it's rare to just find a LP for sale used (Other than modern faded studios) So when My buddy says he has a LP Custom to sell me, I'm all about it!

Turns out it is a '74 custom black, with an invisible headstock repair and corresponding back of the neck refin/overspray. I snagged it. Not 2 hours later another guy I know calls me to sell a LP Deluxe he found in a storage unit. It's a heavily modded cherry top. Then Yesterday I get a call from a buddy of mine at the local Pawn shop saying they have a LP coming out. A RARE standard model in TSB! All three guitars are from '74, one of each model (Deluxe, custom, standard)

Statistically I just had a 'once in a lifetime' LP buying weekend! The odds are astronomical that I'd find 3 LPs, but when you figure in that they are all vintage, AND all from the same year, AND all three models, the odds are just stupid.

They all have issues, but still fun guitars!

What a fun weekend you are having. Yes, stupid odds, but better than our lawmakers raising the debt-ceiling.

Things must be getting better in La-La-Land!!

I need to change that in my location! lol I actually live in east tennessee, but my wife says I live in "La la land"!

I just took the pickups out of the Standard, it is in fact a factory standard! no routing, but the original pickups have been swapped for double cream dimarzios. I'm wanting to go covered pickups in this, would you guys go original and try to find some t tops, or would you just get some aged Duncans or burstbuckers?

The guitar was so filthy I haven't even plugged it in. But it has a vintage set of double cream DiMarzio super distortions I think. They have the little hex heads for the pole pieces.

The aged pickups match the guitar, but I just think I'd like the aged nickel covers on this.

Not a KISS fan at all, but I do dig the look of double creams, and DiMarzio pickups. Maybe I will just keep em.

I did all right on all three because of their current condition. I don't know which one(s) I'll keep, but they will at the very least be clean and set up better than how I found them.

BTW how are the bursts? Not too clowny? With t-burst I like the orange/brown rather than the yellow/black look, with cherry a little fade and not too much red...

I love the hunt myself... Friend of mine just scored a 74 creme strat & and a '76 t-burst deluxe for cheap, another got a 69 GT for this weekend for really cheap... Good time to by a Norlin

I been wanting a hog neck/pancake std for awhile... Got a maple neck 76 factory std that's pretty sweet tho...

Early 70's is the most fun era to hunt if you want to 'beat the market' and play a lot of cool old LP's... When your trophies are cleaned up and mounted, I would love to see the the safari pics myself...
