Hammertone, are you from Steeltown in Canada (affectionately known as "the Hammer" to many of its current and former residents)? ...[]..."

I had been thinking about the weight preoccupation with maple-capped Les Pauls, happened to notice the weights of the Les Paul Customs on Dave's inventory list, and remembered this old post.

Dave has four '50's RI's (all-mahogany bodies), ranging in weight as follows:
- Custom '54 Reissue, Factory Bigsby, 10.6 pounds
- Custom '54 Reissue, 10 pounds
- Custom '57 Reissue, 3 pickup version (no weight listed)
-Custom '57 Reissue, Factory Bigsby, 10.4 pounds

Somebody recently gave me a very good scale, so I weighed my 1994 Custom '54 Reissue (no Bigsby) to see if my memory served me correctly. It came in bang on at 8 3/4 pounds (Grovers replaced with lighter Kluson-style tuners). Again, anyone else have weight stats on their '54 Custom RI's?

Just wondering if there actually is a reasonable weight spread, or if Gibson has netted out at 10/10+ pounds for this particular model, which seems a bit odd

btw, Rio45, my name comes from the Hammertone brand name used by some of the (now ex) GC builders on various projects. These projects included a few guitars that had headstocks incorporating the profile of a typical claw hammer. Since GC is located in Hamilton, the brand, and your comments all fit together. I live in Hogtown, not Hammertown. Originally from Habstown. And I play a few Hammertones, when I'm not getting ham...oh, nevermind.

'01 R7RI 3pup BB: 10.75lbs! And it is a freakin' tone monster!!

But remember, you've got to compare Customs to newborn babies when it comes to weight.

And if you are lucky, the dealer will throw in a free back adjustment from your local Chiropractor.;)

Ooomph!

My CS '56 black Custom (all-mahogony, two P90s with a single wrap-around bridge/tailpiece) weighs 9 lb 15 oz or 10 pounds on the nose. It's the heaviest of the seven LPs I own. The other six have maple caps and are Historics, except the Page. The lighest one is about 8.5 lbs.

Recently had 2018 R7 Black Beauty and 2018 R7 Goldtop and the weight is nearly the same, Custom is only approx. 100grams heavier than Goldtop.

Guitars should be weighed in pounds and ounces such as 8lbs 6ozs.
If someone says their guitar weighs around 9 pounds this means they've never weighed it.
Saying a guitar weighs 9.3 pounds is not proper. When is the last time you saw a running back rush for 50yrds .2meters?
Don't mix pounds with metric

Or everybody could use metric and there would never be any mixups :hmm

I remember drooling when I saw pictures of your Chambered BB. Were these a limited release? Can one get a Custom Shop iteration of this these days? I searched at one point but got nothing.
Black Customs are my fave but I've never gotten one as my neck is averse to LP's > 8.2 lbs, and I prefer my Wildwood featherweights that are both <8 lb's.

a chambered BB with custombucker , hide glue, real ebony
would be killer and a much better use of Gibson craftsman time then some of the things they are producing

Yeah I'll take a Chambered BB with the 2014 Historic specs otherwise, long tenon, no truss rod condom, hide glue for the fretboard, etc. etc. :3zone :jim
