• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Took my first Les Paul to a tech

Hi everyone. I've been playing for over a year and recently got my second guitar and first Les Paul, an Epiphone 1959 Standard. I took it to a tech because there was some buzzing noise when I switched to the gain channels on my Katana, which didn't happen with my other guitar. Unfortunately, I didn't record the sound, though it got louder when I put my palm near the switch cover. It also picked up some static when rubbing the back of the body against some of my shirts. I don't know any guitar techs here in my hometown in Bolivia, so I took it to one that is fairly known, but as a general instrument tech. He's had it for over a week now and apparently hasn't found the issue yet. He tells me he is still looking into it and needs a few more days. Being new to this kind of stuff I have a couple of questions. Do you have any ideas on what could be causing this issues and, in your experience, does it usually take that long to have it checked?

This is a static electricity problem and can be troublesome. I’ve never had it, but people say wiping the guitar with dryer sheets can help.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I wanted to post an update the other day, but the site was down and I forgot afterwards. I got it back last weekend. The tech did some shielding and checked the wiring. It took a while but the issues are gone. I did try dryer sheets before taking it there, but it didn't help. Thankfully, I got rid of that issue.

Oh yeah, sorry mate. I was struggling to upload some pictures here the other day and gave up. I still am. I created an album and uploaded them there. I don't know if there is a simpler way to upload pics in a thread.

Anyway, here are some pics of my current gear. I'm loving my Les Paul. I wasn't a fan of the satin finish at first, but it's starting to grow on me. Only thing I didn't like was the fretboard on mine came looking really light and dry. I applied lemon oil but it didn't make much difference. I ordered some Montyspresso relic wax to see if it can darken it a bit, but the tech also did some work on the fretboard and it is looking better now. I forgot to ask what product he used, but the relic wax I ordered just arrived, so I'll apply some anyway and see if it can make it look a bit better.
