• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

RIP Geoff Emerick

RIP. I enjoyed his work and his book. Of course I would: I am one of those dodgy recording engineer types.

RIP to one of the greatest and most innovative engineers ever.

His autobiography is a great read -- my only complaint was that he was awfully tough on George Harrison's guitar and songwriting skills in the mid-1960s. But if Emerick was correct in his assessment, that just makes Harrison's emergence as a musical equal to John and Paul by the end of the group all the more impressive.

While seeming to genuflect when writing about McCartney.

RIP..Had a hand in many ground breaking recordings.

Really shocking that he's gone... :dang
I think he was just here at Capitol Studios not more than a week ago. He liked to come here and he was such a sweet kind man. He always said hello... I was lucky enough to master an album for him in the early 2000's (don't remember the band) but the format was 1/4 inch 15ips non-Dolby... the same format he used for the Beatle and Badfinger mixes he did back in the day. When I was a "set-up" guy at Capitol in 1986 Geoff was here remixing the first 4 or 5 Beatle LP's from the original 4 tracks. We were all DYING to sit in and listen to the mixes. Geoff knew this, so one day he let me and my co-worker come in for an hour or so. We were in heaven...hearing the Fab 4's in between take hilarious banter... sounding like they were in the room with us! I'll never forget it.
RIP Geoff
