Every once in a while I hear negative references around here to Rio Grande pickups and it's usually attached to words like "Epiphone." I've been hanging out here for a couple of years, but I must've missed the joke. Or do most of you really not like them? I bought a set of Rio Grande Bastards (P-90s for a humbucker slot) and they sound great. Someone please enlighten me.

Rio Grandes aren't bad pickups. Someone not too terribly long ago was arguing that his epiphne Les Paul Standard with Rio Grande pickups sounded just as good as anyone's r(, and Snags never let it die.

Oh...I see...now I get it.

Well, it IS true, my Schecter Papa Roach guitar with Rio Grande pickups and an old Series 10 neck sounds JUST LIKE A LES PAUL ONLY TEN TIMES BETTER. The Schecter by itself was merely OK, but the aftermarket parts really made it killer. Now it's way better than my R7 for a lot less money.

Something along those lines, Ed?

I had a Rio Grande BBQ Bucker. It was a very good pickup, but not the cat's ass.

I was very happy with the Twangbucker bridge assembly and the Vintage Tall Boy Twang Bucker that we used in the neck position that we made for Mutanthands. Thing sounded great, the guitar still had the meat and potatoes that usally comes from our guitars yet you could get that twangy sound usally associated with another famous company.
Peace too all!!

Their stand in Arlington was almost totally ignored which surprised me. Maybe the number of lurkers on this forum is waaaay bigger than we imagined :)

Ignored Rio Grande booth...

Don't look at me! I don't have anything against Rio Grandes. You just had to see the thread (now deleted) with Buddy (now banned) to fully understand the true humor behind the joke. This kid got so worked up over his Epiphone with Rio Grandes that he was slobbering on himself.

"Best Of" Topic?

I know this would not really be possible, but it would be cool to have a section on the forum where all of the "classics" could be viewed at anytime.

Epiphone + Rio Grande = The voice of angels.:dude

Note: No more alcohol or chemicals for Al Green- he's further gone than Peter Green...

That would have been a good thread for a "Greatest Hits" area, except it was nuked. There was also some great stuff on either Swirve or EZboard during the Presidential elections (I.E. the source of Hank's 'algoresucks') that should have been saved.

i had them put into a PRS Custom 24. and thought they sounded ok. actually, the texas in the neck was pretty bland compared to the original PRS vintage bass let alone my McCarty's Lindy PAF. the BBQ bridge was kinda harsh in the midrange and didnt have enough bass umph. oh well...

Tried that combo in a Classic once and it was way too dark. Ended up putting Duncan 59s in - much better.
