I like these as well. Does anyone know if this Vintage Original Spec finish can be buffed to a gloss? Years ago I had a local luthier buff out a blonde ES-333 and it came out with a nice gloss.

I've seen folks do it: Turtle wax silicone-free rubbing compound and polishing compound was used. I'd imagine other suitable polyurethane polish will work as well.

Yes, there are guys on YT demonstrating the process. I just bought the Cherry Red one, and it is beautiful, nicer than photos can depict.
The Black looks nice too, but it would def. need to be buffed.
I will probably antique the P/guard. Amber.

Here's a happy owner who buffed out his new 355:

Thanks for sharing your process and results.

When you did the neck, would you say any of the binding got rolled smooth or were you just dealing with the finish?

I did not do this process. I merely posted a link to YT from a guy who did. Watch it and good luck

The funny thing is: that after only 1 week, there are areas on my 355 where the finish is already looking buffed, slightly more glossy, from contact with my thumb on the neck, and on top of the bass bout where the guitar fits under my arm and armpit !
That tells me that after say, a year of playing, the finish will not be a uniform finish, so there may be a buffing out in its future. Like it or not.
