This past weekend, I volunteered to go with a buddy to look at a used guitar that he wanted to purchase even though he doesn't really play. It was an American Performer Stratocaster. He knows I know my guitars and so I volunteered to help him out. However, prior to going I looked at Facebook Marketplace just for giggles (I always look for Les Pauls) and sure enough, I saw a 2024 Gibson LP Standard 60's Faded in Vintage Cherry. Considering I have been trying to sell a 2006 Gibson LP Special TV Yellow Doublecut Faded model for some time, I thought I'd offer up a trade. To my surprise, he said if I threw in a bit of cash, he'd be willing. Man, I couldn't run fast enough to my secret stash of moola.
Drove over...bought the strat and then the sweating began. I've done this several times, and I'm never relieved until that new guitar is in my hands. Sure enough we meet up and inspect each other's guitars. He's really happy to look at the Special and I'm over the moon by what I'm looking at. It's a BRAND-NEW Standard that is dated April 2024...it's 3 months old. I cannot figure why he would want to sell but all he really said was that he wasn't a "Les Paul guy". I'm guessing he's concerned about the weight. Doesn't bother me...I'm embarrassed to say that this is my 5th LP. This one is 9.5 lbs or so. Not the heaviest and not the lightest. Just right.
Anyway, please meet my first Standard named Elroy.
