Hello. I just purchased this beautiful guitar w/orig. case. It is factory white. It has all original hardware except the pickups, but the pickup covers are missing. These are LP Custom pickups from '72 and '78 model guitars. Can original covers be installed again; if so, is there any advice? I've been told it's no big deal; I've also been told it is very tricky and needs to be done by a pickup guy. I'd love to hear opinions. Thanks.

If you can solder and have a nice hot iron, it’s very doable.

Covers of choice
Soldering iron
Solder
Razor blade (if you need to remove old covers)
Silicone adhesive/sealant
Painter’s tape*
Clamp (preferably plastic)

If you have these things, it’s relatively easily done. I have even swapped covers without removing the pickups from the guitar (ie, not desoldering them and taking them out—obviously had to take them out of the pickup rings—just be careful).

*Painter’s tape is optional, I like to put it on the slug bobbin to put the silicone on (which seals the cover to the pickup) so that I can easily remove the silicon later should I want to change covers again.
