• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Much respect for Joe B

I don’t listen to modern blues sort of stuff typically, but he’s a world class guitar player/musician and I love all his interviews and knowledge dumps. He comes across as very genuine, and humble enough actually, and I get his sense of humor.
He seems like he’s busted his ass to be successful and I’m glad he’s successful.
I find it odd that some people are inclined to put on an exhibition as to why they don’t like him, or anyone else really. Just move on and don’t waste your time.
But maybe “blooze” fans treat the music from a snobby, purist elitist perspective, akin to a religion of sorts… which would explain some of the negativity and polarization.
So no underhanded compliment here, he totally deserves musical respect IMHO.

irregardless of the thread subject (JB) I for one am glad as Hell that I am who I am and I have no inclination whatsoever to be any other person, nor to have what any other person has.
Those concepts are purely emotional, those concepts are at best quite unhealthy and at the worst could lead to severe mental issues.
I surly don't feel that way and I'm sorry that you do but please don't speak for, "we would all" which includes me.

I have my own identity and I have my own experience; I don't require to be someone I'm not.
Thanks .......
Although "irregardless" isn't even a word... I fully agree. I wouldn't want to be anybody else in this world. I love being me. Speak for yourselves.

I've been a fan since I first heard him, and I often enjoy the interviews and clips that have been posted. He seems interesting, passionate, and he speaks to my inner guitar nerd. Like many have said, I'd love to have 1/100th of his talent - he's clean, articulate, and plays with complete confidence. I haven't got a bad thing to say about him, and he strikes me as genuine and kind.

Joe is a consummate professional entertainer.

Think about what @ch willie said. His girlfriend is a great fan. What percentage of guitarists generate female fans? Joe has identified an audience and plays to it. He has certainly honed his chops for years and years.

It is okay to not like his style but the continual slagging is tiring.

My opinion: Joe Bonamassa has put in more effort to keep rock guitar music alive than anybody since Slash. He reveres the heritage of his craft, saluting not only the original guitars and amps, but the songs. His own compositions are amazing, because he doesn’t limit himself to just one genre, covering blues, jazz, rock, and even metal. And his singing is full of soul, the kind you only get after years of touring. And he has learned to be a master showman. I think every current Les Paul owner owes him a big ”thank you.”

Not a student nor 20 years old; I'll be 63 in less than 3 months, if I'm still breathing then.

So, you have an Instagram account too? Tuff place over there, huh?

Don't get me wrong--I really do respect Joe, and as I said, he is the real deal. And he had men and women on their feet at the show. I've had that reaction at a few big gigs I've played, but he gets that every night.

Someone mentioned that perhaps it's the songs. Maybe that is it for me. I came to the blues via Clapton, Zeppelin, ZZ Top and the Stones. I've never been a great fan of SRV or even Hendrix. My favorite blues album is Clapton's From the Cradle--so that's probably a lot of why Joe's music doesn't do it for me. Most of what I listen to is classical music and British rock. Beatles, Pink Floyd, Clapton, Elton, Stones, Radiohead, Noel Gallagher (not Oasis that much), Chris Rea, etc.

I feel bad to have criticized him at all. When he was posting on these pages, he was always a nice guy.

I wonder if he quit posting here for any particular reason.

lemme guess the amount of membership here at TLPF ....... a few?

Here is what I found via a web search.
There are currently over 2.35 billion monthly active Instagram users. This number makes Instagram the 4th most popular social media in the world in terms of MAUs. The platform is estimated to reach over 2.5 billion by the end of 2023. 47.84% of the world's 4.18 billion smartphone users access Instagram every month. Aug 7, 2023

So, JB quits Instagram stating he wouldn't be back but then <1 year later he returns to Instagram.
If JB isn't posting here on TLPF but he is posting on Instagram then maybe it has to do with exposure; there are obviously more folks on Instagram than here at TLPF.

Just a guess on my part.

Another thought: I don't do Instagram. Is that a 'paid' platform? I assume it is. TLPF is a freebie.

  • Instagram is free.
  • Joe is a co-owner of this forum.
  • That means he invests his own money in maintaining this forum that we all can enjoy for free (unless we choose to donate, which I have done).
I doubt the number of registered member here is a factor, because guitars and gear are lifelong passions for Joe, and those interests are shared by many of the participants on this forum.

That hasn't changed, as far as I know. Joe used to post here, and now he does not.

Perhaps he is too busy. That's understandable.

Could it be because he doesn't want to become embroiled in unnecessarily negative discussions? I wonder.

I'd hate to see this place turn into The Gear Page.

well, I learned Instagram is free.
Thanks for throwing that out there.
I don't do Twitter (now X, I guess), Facebook, Instagram, etc.

I'm kinda old skool; if I can't do it (communicate) with a phone call, text or email then I'm prolly not gonna ....... other than a forum, of course .......

The Gear Page is horrible (n)

Forum usage for all forums is way down overall.

Very noticeable here. It’s not a popular format. Not very user friendly from a UI/UX standpoint.

As numbers dwindle on forums, folks become more polemic about politics AND gear. I don't think that's happened here yet. There still seems to me to be a variety of oppinions and approaches. On a forum I've been in for over a decade, I feel like a persona non gratta for asking that the posting steer away from politics and concentrate on gear and playing. I was pretty much told to fuck off if I didn't like it. But I hang there still but comment only on gear. I don't hold grudges, and I still appreciate the knowledge of gear there.

In my very subjective opinion I feel the Zapper thread was the start of change for landscape of the LPF .

I really enjoy Joe B's YouTube content very informative Joe waters it down so people like me can grasp his info I sincerely believe if you got to know Joe he is so much more than a super guitar player .

Jesus, the dude is a successful guitar player. Like that's unique among topics here? Why the sanctimonious hand-wringing over whether you -should- like him or not?

Listen and and enjoy. Or turn him off and listen to something you do enjoy, FFS.
