• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Let's hear it for the Les Paul Studio!

Hi, newbie to the forum here. Sorry if this is not the appropriate place to post this, but this seems like as good a place as any. Keep in mind I know virtually nothing about gear, so you may have to dumb stuff down for me.

I got a brand new Studio in January 1999. I never did any research on it or talked to anybody knowledgeable about it because I just wasn't interested in the specs and all that. I loved the tone, and that was enough for me. But in recent years I've been doing a little online research on it. I'm still not quite sure exactly what model studio it is exactly. I've narrowed it down to LPST or LPSO. The only things I can guess those stand for are Les Paul Standard and Les Paul Studio, but if they're both Studios anyway, than what's the difference? Looking at specs online, specs for the LPSO are scarce, but the only differences I can find are years of manufacture and finish colors, but those two elements of my Studio conform to both I've seen listed online.

So here are the specs that I can give you:

Serial number: 91738374. An online decoder site places this at being made in a Nashville factory on June 22, 1998
Finish: Ebony
Hardware: Chrome
Inlays: Pearl dots
Pick guard: black, raised

I don't know anything about what woods are used where, or even how to tell. But judging by the darkness, I'm assuming the fret board is ebony.

Everything should be factory stock (except a Roland GK2A pickup mounted on it).

Anyway my questions:
1. Is my Studio an LPST or LPSO?
2. What are the differences between LPST and LPSO?
3. What kind of pickups are in my Studio? (again, they're the ones the factory put in)

Thanks in advance!

Here's my new used '92 Studio, I like it pretty well so far, as good as any other LP or clone that I have played but I am still getting used to the lighter weight and thinner profile.

I might try a brown tortoise pickguard, I'm going for that Lucille look but the light doesn't catch it right in red tortoise. Looks better in person IMO...
