• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Sweet, i just watched the DVD again... damn he looked cool with that thing! The paint job (which ihtink i read somewhere he did himself) on the guitar is really cool and unique. My GAS for a 3 pup custom is soooo bad right now! any body got any info on where it ended up? does he still have it, or did eh sell it/destory it?

Based on what I have read here and other places, Keith should get far more credit for paving the way with using Les Pauls(first in Europe during the British Invasion, [if I am correct] from the pictures I've seen here) and having Fender start the relicing process on Fenders, among other things.
He is way under-rated and a true pioneer in starting to use guitars that we all now desire, and have for decades. His studio knowledge and abilities are far greater then most people give him credit for.

During the '69 and '70 tours Keith used a 3 pickup Custom but it did not have the same paint job as in the photo above. I wonder if he had two of them? Anyone know?

+1 I'm a big Keith fan. People like to joke that he looks dead, he's old blah blah - snippy housewife insults. :grrr

In addition to being a great musical artist, he's one of the more intelligent and witty people in the public eye and is a HELL of a lot smarter than most rock stars.

"and is a HELL of a lot smarter than most rock stars."

I have a pair of shoes that are smarter than most rock stars! Actually, Keith is an intellegent guy, it's just when he starts talking he goes into this rambling, mumbling kind of thing that makes him difficult to follow. I think SNL had a funny parody of Keith and Woody a number of years ago. I believe Mick Jagger was the host or musical guest.

:lol Well, maybe I'm not setting the bar real high. I think he has a tendency to do a schtick when he's being interviewed on camera but in print or when he's not self-conscious in front of a camera he comes off differently.

Here you go, it's still about

That's the money shot, John! I first saw pics of that guitar in the book about the Stones '71 Tour (anyone remember what that book was titled?), and wanted a 3 PU Custom since I first saw that guitar. Saw my first one in the flesh in '82 at Knute-Koupee Music--they wanted the princely sum of $1500! Why, everybody KNEW they weren't worth more than a grand...;)

That's a good sounding guitar. If you watch the footage of them cutting "Sympathy For The Devil" in the studio, you can hear Keith get some serious tone out of it through a big ass Vox amp (must have been a AC100 or something like that). At one point they show him extremely bored, and he starts ripping out some Clapton licks. It was flat out SCARRY.That brother can PLAY.I have the feeling that most of the time he just chooses to leave it up to someone else on stage and have a good time instead.

Hell of a sense of humor too and seems to be very humble and gracious and super nice to his fans. You're always hearing stories about people walking into a bar and Keith will be there and he'll sit there and tell stories with them till dawn just like they're an old friend.I'd like to meet him some day, just seems like a cool cat.

On the other hand,I wouldn't walk across the street to piss on Mick Jagger if he was on fire.Don't think Keith would either!

WB.

PS-Danny Gatton's 3 pup Custom was painted simmilar to Keith's as well.I don't know if Keith was his inspirtation for doing this or not-I believe the guitar was painted like that before Danny would have ever been able to see Keith in concert or on TV with his guitar.
