• THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING! We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and now have to move to a new host. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
  • WE ARE MOVING THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER OVER THE NEXT 5-10 DAYS. We will experience downtime during that period. Please be patient and have confidence that we will return! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin

Kinda late to the game. Can you recommend a Mayer studio album (preferably vinyl) that I should have in my collection? I have Try! with Pino and Jordan. That's a rocking record! Thanks!

Continuum -
The essential album on which he departed his earlier pop rock, incorporating more blues, soul, and mature themes. Try! is the live set that followed in its wake. Continuum remains one of his most well-regarded pieces of work.

,,,

Born And Raised -
After a period of success and high profile media exposure, and some torrid rock star behavior, he took a step back and became reflective. Born And Raised captures the 'growing up' with more introspective writing, and marks a stylistic change, where he adapts Americana and Laurel Canyon-esque folk rock into a more subdued, laid back sound, coupled with more expansive band arrangements.

Thank you. Continuum was also recommended by a family member. I'll start with that one.

Good choice. I misspoke about Try! and botched the order... Actually, Continuum was influenced by Try! not vice versa.

John is a great guy, we went to college together. I would say check out the late great Wes Wilkes. Wes lived in the dorms with us and was a really big influence on all of us, as he was a little older and a great player as well as a crazy mofo and cool guy who would show you anything. John was always following Wes around and I don't mean this in a bad way. Also, Tomo Fujita, another really great man and a wonderful teacher.

Wes lost his battle with his demons, but any time I get together with that group of guys (there were about three girls in our dorm) his name comes up in all the best ways.

So you went to school w Clay Cook? I was friends w his step dad.
Maybe it’s better for me not to know too much about a person. I can’t even listen to a note from Mayer.
